Remove centerstand ?

Since I wiegh 300lbs. It aint gonna matter...

i was being ironic. I'm like 270lbs myself, so after cleaning the bike of that excess weight, with the centerstand, toolkit, and OEM exhaust, I saved only like 3,5 kilos. If I go to the toilet before a ride I'll probably save just as much :p
So the toolkit and centerstand are back on ..

I've never considered removing it. My other bike doesn't have a center stand, and I love the simplicity of (especially) chain maintenance with one installed. It comes in most handy when I'm on long trips, where I can stop for the night, pop it onto the stand, and lube the chain in about 2 minutes. This was a huge benefit to me, and a feature that I was looking for when shopping bikes last year.

Removed my centerstand when I installed my Yosh R-77 exhaust. Can't say I really miss it. I have swingarm spools installed that I use with my Pit Bull rear stand for chain maintenance. Oh and it shaves 5-6 lbs off the bike :D

No doubt. That thing weighs a freaking ton. I don't miss mine at all. I have front and rear stand I use at home when I am working on it.

I ended up putting mine back on when I started taking longer trips with the bike. Makes chain maintenance super easy. Plus I feel more secure when I park the bike for the night on the centerstand, especially with the Givis on there.

The one trick that sticks in my mind is...

While the bike is on the center stand, place washers or coins into the spring before pushing the bike off the stand. This will allow keep the spring extended far enough to remove it.

I have yet to remove my center stand. I ride pretty aggressive and it never touches. It's extra weight, but it's low. I'm thinking about removing my center stand just to see if I can notice the difference. It should only take a few minutes to remove or replace anyway.

The first time that you have a flat on a trip, you will wish that you had it. It make plugging tires much easier. It is amazing how much easier it is to pump up a tire with the weight off of it. A small pump has to work pretty hard anyway without the weight on the tire. Chain maintenance was also mentioned. Form or function, your choice. :D

I have to laugh at the weight savings justifications for removing the stand on a street bike. That 5-6lbs you save seems irrelevant compared to the weight of say, a tank bag with a cell phone, wallet, house keys, a bottle of water & an ipod :dontknow:

Or a medium-sized roadside lunch :icon_beer:

Yup.......

I use the center stand more than the side stand. It is on the center stand nearly everywhere I park the bike. Makes maintenance a breeze but I do not have any pit stands either. I found it very difficult to work with Michele's FZ6R without the center stand and I'm glad she's got the FZ1 now!

Couple bowls of chili and some potato salad at the roadside diner and I'll drop 5 lbs before dinner. ;)

At least it is not a tank bag + a cannon. ;). 8 pounds is a lot of weight. I just have never missed it.
