Anyone else had an awesome ride today?

Got about 80 miles in today, new tires are awesome!
She goes where I want and stays there. You really don't realize how bad your tires are until you get new ones, lol.

Got the forks back on after respring, seals and fresh oil. About a 65 mile loop and reminded of what a difference the fresh suspenders are.
Stopped for some fresh non-E fuel and a clean red and white 1998 R1 at the other pump. Chatted a bit about old carb'd bikes then headed back to the house.

Pre 2000 R1s were some of the best paint schemes ever, especially Red/White. I’ve haven’t seen non-leaded gas (if that’s what “non-E fuel” means) in New England in the last 40 years. I think it can be bought in cans for racing purposes.

100 low lead from the local airport smells like roses compared to the crap at the gas station. I run it every once in a while just to remind me of my racing days, smells awesome!

My guess was non ethanol fuel.

Apologies folks, non-E = ethanol free. There are some fuel stations local to me that have it, beit just a few. And all that carry ethanol free have it in 90 octane too.
Gas stations around lakes will frequently have non-ethanol fuel in multiple grades.

I've seen it and used it when I'm in Pennsylvania. I haven't seen it in Nj were I live. Whenever I see it use it. Ethanol is not good to leave sitting for long.

I did a 140 mile ride (on my blue FZ) two weeks ago to a custom chopper show. Did I tell anyone how much I love these Gen I FZs? Easy to cruise on, instant passing torque in 6th, and can carve up the canyons with ease, machine is more capable than my abilities and the realities of street riding conditions. 42MPG, as expected, identical to my silver FZ1. Also plenty comfortable, just need to relax the grip sometimes, and after two hours of sitting I like to stretch my legs, but that is longer than I can stay seated in my office chair at work.

The ride home was great, a small group leaving the chopper show passed me so I followed, and the further we went we passed other bikes who joined us. I think at one point there were 10 random riders together.

I was inspired at the chopper show and decided to buy a Harley the next day, older touring model (Street Glide) but newer than my FZs (2006) and FUEL INJECTED! My first fuel injected bike. Ridiculously cheap price, seller needed it gone. Personally I'm not a touring or a cruiser enthusiast and never set out to get one so this is way out of my element, but for the price I figured why not, it should be fun.

It weighs 60% more than my FZ1 and despite a 45% bigger engine displacement, the torque numbers are roughly the same and the FZ makes far more HP. The old twin cam 88 V-twin does make that peak torque at low RPM... but I'm going for the experience. I'm definitely not getting rid of my blue FZ though I really need to sell the silver one to make some more space.

I do miss the old "Hog Tales" thread on the FZ1OA site where the FZ crew shared stories of interactions with Harley riders, always fun to read. Most importantly I like ALL motorcycles, anything with two wheels is fun and they all have their place, but I am entertained by these power and weight numbers and I really don't get excited when I hear of someone running "a race build" engine.

Spyd3rm4n, Congrats on the new bike. Glad some members are riding.

I knew the Hog Tales thread but to be honest I’ve never had a problem with HD riders.

I use to have my own thread on FZ1OA where I would visually poll the bike brands I encountered on an average New England day. HD always dominated by a factor of better than 7 to 1 compared to all other brands. They sell the most, but they also ride the most which is big in my book. I stop and try to assist any rider that’s broken dowwn and I’ve had many occasions where HD riders have paused to make sure I'm OK when I’m stopped taking a break.

My only non riding issue is HD’s off shoring of the Pan America to Thailand. Can make that complaint of several other brands like KTM with China………said the guy riding Japanese bikes.

Yeah most of the guys i ride with are on Harleys or Indians. I don't care what you ride as long as your out having fun. We hit the twisties in the mountains,I take off for a stretch then wait up for the heavy bikes. It works for everyone and we all have mutual respect for each other. When we all pull in and have lunch it's all about the ride . Not what you ride. Different strokes for different folks.

Yeah I think most motorcyclists are like that, which is a good thing. I know I am. I have nothing against Harleys or any bike, they're all awesome.

I can't remember where I read this but somewhere on the Internet I heard a comment along the lines of when it's 40 degrees and raining outside and you see a motorcyclist rising in those conditions it's usually either a BMW or a Harley. So true. Dedicated to the ride.

Since we just spoke of HD and Pan America I thought I’d share this custom from the recent Las Vegas One show The PA engine looks cool but also a little toy like cheap. Wonder if the custom lowers and raises when stopped. I wouldn’t mind taking a spin on it. I bet it toasts your buns on a warm day.

They're nice. A friend gave me an awesome pair bought 6 years ago. The leather is thin in the palms. Don't bunch up on the grip. I posted this thread a year ago almost to the day. The weather here in south Louisiana is getting to the 60's and 70's this week. Hope to have a good ride with four other buddies. Going to a town about 40 miles away see a plantation home. Been there before with mixed emotions. Realizing the people were taken from their home in Africa shipped half way around the world and expected to work from sun up to sundown. If anyone's interested I'll let you know how it goes with pics. I do have some pics from the first visit I'll post
