    Overflowing Carb

No need to reinstall the carbs to see if they are going to leak, turn them upside down and check with a Mitivac to see if they hold pressure. If one fails to hold 2 to 3 lbs of constant pressure, it's going to leak fuel. I check them before putting the bowls back on. A leak can easily be found...

    New Member - '13 Fz1, any advise?

I suggest getting used to it a little at a time. That's the reason it has a throttle, just give it what you can handle.

Gen 1 rough idle, poor performance below 5k rpm, bad coils? Bad plug caps?

EXUP working and cables adjusted properly? Maybe sonic clean the carbs.

    Front axle special tool

I ran into that several years ago. Found a metric bolt and nut with a 19mm head and welded the nut to the bolt. It's been working fine.

Leaking fuel out of some sort of overflow

Doubt you hurt the engine with the starter. If an o ring on a seat is cracked or the needle valve is bad, tapping on the carb will do nothing. I might try gently tapping on one to get me home, but no reason to otherwise. They're going to have to come apart anyway, it's really not hard.

Leaking fuel out of some sort of overflow

Sounds like it's time to rebuild the carbs. If a lot of gas is getting above the piston, that would explain the no crank issue because liquids do not compress. Might want to check the oil too because it's probably diluted with gasoline.

    Heated grips

If you want the grips controlled by the ignition, you really should use an existing ignition powered circuit to energize the coil on a relay and run the power circuit for the grips through that relay. They will pull too much power to tap into any ignition controlled circuit and IMHO, should be...
