Got it Running! '71 Honda CL175 Scrambler

Thanks, Lonney! I finally got around to transferring the title today. I didn't register it because Michigan allows historic registration with a plate from the same year as vehicle was manufactured. I'm now on the hunt for a 1971 MI motorcycle plate! Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk

Got it Running! '71 Honda CL175 Scrambler

First priority is road-worthiness, then general clean-up. I managed to crack both side covers trying to get to the air filters, and they're relatively pricey to replace. I'll see if I can repair them. For now, I just want it to run well! 650 miles in one day is a hell of a load on any vintage...

Got it Running! '71 Honda CL175 Scrambler

A couple of weekends ago, I picked up a non-running 1971 Honda Scrambler. This was all precipitated by a friend asking me if I would ride "chase" for him on the Lake Erie Loop in June 2015. I was talking about how fun it could be to participate, and the guy who sits next to me said, "Why don't...

    garage door opener

I use this approach. Works about 20% of the time, so I wouldn't call it perfectly reliable. In case of failure, I just open it myself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dR6t2zCLaA

What did you do to your FZ today?

Heading out for a trip this weekend, so I installed a new battery (stock battery on my 2009 was acting odd, not holding a charge, and tested "bad" when I put it on a battery tester). Rear tire was well into the wear bars, so I had a new Pilot Road 4 mounted and put it on last night. Was a bit...

    Chain and sprocket suggestions/help

I replaced my stock chain on the 2008 after 30,000 miles. Did the sprockets at the same time (16t on the front). Chain was a DID Gold VX530. Wear on the sprockets was noticeable, but not excessive. Chain measured within specifications. I replaced it because fo the "redish rusty looking spots"...

    Lithium ion Battery

I have the impression that the FZ1's charging system is anemic, but that Lithium batteries require a slightly higher voltage to properly charge (than lead/agm/gel). Has anyone running a Lithium battery made any changes to their bike charging system? I've read a few forum posts elsewhere that an...

    Lithium ion Battery

Which Shorai did you get? I've seen references that both an 8 and a 12 are "right" for the FZ1. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk

    Yamaha Warranty Info

Agreed. He's dealing directly with Yamaha Customer Service. There are some fairly deep scratches. I'd like to say it's just cosmetic, but I'm not an expert. I think he would actually be fine with someone (an expert) telling him that it's safe to ride. I attached a picture he sent me of the...

    Chameleon Camera Edit

I picked up an Oregon Scientific "Chameleon" action camera for a song ($45) recently. It's an interesting camera, with lenses facing both forward and backward. Both lenses record simultaneously and there's no way to turn that feature off. The files are the camera include the video from both...

    Yamaha Warranty Info

This is excellent advice, actually. I think that staying calm is critical when you're dealing with customer service. I know some people get results when they rant and rave, but that's not my style. I talked to a friend who used to be a Service Manager at a Yamaha Dealership and he offered some...

    Yamaha Warranty Info

Yamaha Warranty Info (Help Requested) I have a friend with a Yamaha Tenere that's still under its extended warranty (it's literally days past it's factory warranty). He had a spoke break and chew up his swing arm. Yamaha is replacing the spoke under warranty, but won't do anything about the...

What did you do to your FZ today?

Finally got around to taking the warning stickers off the tank and tail section. It's a bit rainy here this weekend, so I washed it. It's also a pretty boring weekend at home, so I keep walking out to the garage and thinking, "It only takes a few minutes... I'll throw another coat of wax on the...

    Heated Grips

Where did you source them? I was also looking at grips from Koso North America and the controls aren't as clunky looking.

    Heated Grips

Has anyone use both the Oxfords and the under-grip heating elements and can offer a comparison? I know I'm being picky about appearance, but I think the Oxfords would have to be significantly better for me to go with them. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk

    Heated Grips

Where are you guys mounting the controller? I had a different kit on my old FZ1, but am thinking about the Oxfords for the new bike. In a perfect world, the controller would just be a plain dial (like my heated jacket controller). The Oxford unit looks pretty chunky.

--!!Post What Made You Laugh Today!!--

Today I was working in the garage with my brother-in-law. We'd had a pretty tough 24 hours, having broken a bolt off the night before and were wracking our brains trying to figure out how to get something between the radiator and the engine that could extract the bolt. Feeling a little punchy...

What did you do to your FZ today?

Not today, but I went for a nice, long ride on the 2009 on Saturday. Performed great. Got home and put in some fresh oil and a new filter. I've managed a little over 2000 miles since I bought the bike at the end of July. This trip, I achieved a milestone! My '08 had almost 40K miles on it, so I...

    Can someone explain why

I had no idea that you couldn't run full synthetic with a rebuild kit. That's reason enough to buy OEM, isn't it?

    wiring in a usb connector?

If you plan to do any further expansion from an electrical standpoint (heated gear outlet, grips, additional charging ports, etc) look into putting in some sort of fuse block to keep things clean. I had a "Fuzeblock FZ1" on my old bike, and will probably go with another when I get around to...
