R1 Front end conversion complete and the verdict is............

07/08 (and probably the later ones) R1 forks are about 1cm shorter than the FZ1's. You say you put an R1 front end on yet went with Ohlins?? Are you talking internals or complete forks? Are your forks the stock R1 length or are they FZ1 length? . . .Basically installing the R1 forks flush with...

Which Headers are available for the FZ1

Biggest issue with the stock header is not the diameter of the pipes. It's collector pipe lengths are a packaging compromise in order to fit the catalytic convertor. Gutting the cat will not change the fundamental design compromise . . .The Arrow and Akra header designs are very similar (to...

Ohlins FGRT 206, any one installed them?

If you are going to spend the $ and time to install Brembo (or even R1 6pot calipers) it makes sense to put some time and $ into the master cylinder that is operating them. MC should be correctly sized for the application and should probably be a radial design. It is doubtful that best...

    Slip on

The EXUP on the GenII has no performance benefit. Don't sweat loosing it.

    Arrow headers are INSTALLED!

IMHO, if you don't already have a slipon, go for the Yosh R77 full system rather than the Arrow and slipon. Cost will probably be a bit less depending on the supplier and material choice for the muffler. Performance is also a bit better in the midrange with the header design of the Yosh. . ...

    airbox mod

Also keep in mind that the actual stock fuel line is covered by an outer sheath. Just because it appears to be OK does not mean than the inner fuel line isn't pinched.

    The HOT seat

It's interesting that so many people are commenting about the "hot seat" on the FZ1. I notice only very mild heat, even riding in the summer and sitting at traffic lights. My bike is not stock however. Full exhaust system means there are no catylitic convertors in the exhaust (stock bike has...

    airbox mod

Yes. Grumpy you may well have kinked your fuel line when you lifted up the tank to do the airbox mod. . . . .

    Rerouting cables - Airbox Mod

Not worth the effort. That's what Ivan says anyways, and he probably knows! I actually did it ages ago but it did take some trial and error to get things routed safely. . . Basically, factory routing is probably the best for the protection of the wiring. There is apparently no performance...

    Interesting article

Cameron writes for Cycle World still. I don't think that it is particularly geared to snowmobiles at all. I have his motorcycle performance tuning book. Much of this article is in there. Very good stuff. How old is the article?

    Bad vibrations

Default position for the exup is open.

    motoman's fz1 rebuild

You can fit the PCV (and the ignition module for that matter) in the space where the exup motor resides. I used a small plastic box to contain the PC (PCIII in my case) and the IM in this location. Instead you could probably put your GPS charger there.

    Arrow headers are INSTALLED!

Those BMWs will make 200+ RWHP with bolt ons. Note the aprox 100hp at 7k on the modded bike in the Dyno chart. Thats about the same as the full package FZ1. Of course the BMW keeps on going loooong after the FZ is done. This is serious liter bike power!

Fat Bar Clamps for FZ1 ???

Rizoma makes 1 1/8 risers that correctly fit the GenII. Go to PJ's parts.

    Arrow headers are INSTALLED!

The "full package" of bolt ons will get you very close to 150hp. You will also get nearly 30hp more than a stock bike at 7.5K. Adding an R1 head gasket (obviously requires removing the head) will help you to just break the 150hp mark and typically will give 2-3hp gains throughout the rev...

    Arrow headers are INSTALLED!

2-3 hp might be worth it. Reality is that the gain would be less than 1 hp.

    Arrow headers are INSTALLED!

Arrow makes sweet headers! You didn't do the coating for the looks?? Honestly, IMHO coating them is not in the least bit necessary to have a long lasting and well performing product. The stainless is good quality and the welds are lovely to look at. Similar to the Akrapovic header in their...

    General Mods??

My R77 doesn't leak at all. You shouldn't need any clamps. It's your bike, but I feel that any clamps would detract from the looks and make future disassembly problematic. You bought an expensive exhaust system, it should work without the need for clamps . . . Did you use a rubber mallet...

    Lost Compression

I would slow down on the "engine is totally shot path" a bit . . . Doubt your test procedure or equipment. Are you using some sort of long adapter? The volume of the adapter can have a ginormous effect on compression readings on a small combustion chamber. Do you know the gauge really works...

    Keihin FCR Flatslide Carbs?

I don't know the answer to your question. . . You could probably reinvent the wheel and install a different set of carbs or you could look at the common mods that most GenIers do. Check out Ivan's site: Ivan's Performance Products People seem pretty happy with the carb mods / products that he...
