No need to reinstall the carbs to see if they are going to leak, turn them upside down and check with a Mitivac to see if they hold pressure. If one fails to hold 2 to 3 lbs of constant pressure, it's going to leak fuel. I check them before putting the bowls back on. A leak can easily be found...
Doubt you hurt the engine with the starter.
If an o ring on a seat is cracked or the needle valve is bad, tapping on the carb will do nothing. I might try gently tapping on one to get me home, but no reason to otherwise. They're going to have to come apart anyway, it's really not hard.
Sounds like it's time to rebuild the carbs.
If a lot of gas is getting above the piston, that would explain the no crank issue because liquids do not compress.
Might want to check the oil too because it's probably diluted with gasoline.
Any time a rebuild a carburetor I test it with this. https://www.tooldiscounter.com/ItemDisplay.cfm?lookup=MITMV8500&source=froogle&kw=MITMV8500&gclid=CjwKCAiA8OjjBRB4EiwAMZe6y_1T9q1su9VH1uZzPdPIcdYDx08KxUXrzG33E-7b5TXMbYJCQtR_wxoCSrkQAvD_BwE

Not to worry, that new $30,000 Electric turd they have for sale will pull them through.lolup
Electraturd, Turdglide or something of the like, is what they should call it.
You're asking me which forum???
You're the one who mentioned another forum in post number 11 and I quote: "Thank you, I will try to reach folks through the other forum. I appreciate this."
OK, which forum were you talking about in post # 11?
I asked what your guy had done already that cost $400...

Numbers 85 and 86 are for the power and ground to energize the relay coil (doesn't matter which goes where), the 30 pin will be the power source from the battery and number 87 with be the power going to the grips. It's normally...
If you want the grips controlled by the ignition, you really should use an existing ignition powered circuit to energize the coil on a relay and run the power circuit for the grips through that relay.
They will pull too much power to tap into any ignition controlled circuit and IMHO, should be...
You said the only way to hear this noise is by turning the crank with a wrench at the left side of the engine, and that it is quiet when running.
Why did your mechanic have the left side cover off anyway and what did your mechanic just do that just cost $400?
If you want help, you're going to...
Do you hear anything while it's running? Any engine has clearance between the bearings and the crankshaft that is filled with oil when it's running, that may be what you're hearing. If it's quiet when it's running, I probably wouldn't worry about it.
Don't think a gen 2 has a balance shaft, I...
