    R1 Fork suspension settings

I weight 190ish LBS but have found 4 lines of preload to hard, as mentioned earlier I backed mine off to 8 lines out which has improved the feel. Also I had fresh 7.5 oil put in before I fitted them. I assumed that the different position you sit in on the FZ as opposed to the R1 meant the...

    R1 Fork suspension settings

I know a lot of people have fitted the R1 forks. How have you set them up. I fitted 06 forks and found them very hard on stock R1 settings so I backed the preload off completely and it improved them no end. Obviously thats telling me the springs are a little bit hard. If you've fitted R1...

    R1 Shock Options??

I have an 06 FZ1-N and fitted a an 06 R1 rear shock. IMO it tranformed the handling of the bike. It's OK talking about fitting Penske or Ohlins and how good they are but lets face it most NORMAL riders would never reach the ability needed to use there capabilities especially on the road. Lets...

Just finished the install of an 07 R1 shock

The connecting bar is chrome moly steel and the rose joint are motorsport grade ultra high performance items so the link is stronger than the original which is made of alloy plus I think DUCATI know a bit about suspension. I appreciate your comment though and I think people will make there...

Just finished the install of an 07 R1 shock

The adjuster Buildercher is talking about is the same as fitted as standard equipment to Ducati 916-996 etc which is where I got the idea. The adjustable dogbone gives you the choose of how high / low you want the rear to ride. Mine cost about £25 Total bargain !!! I hope this helps...

Just fitted 06 R1 front forks WOW!!!

I looked at all the options but thought for what I use the bike for the 04-06 forks fitted the bill and where obviously cheaper than the later forks. Also the 4 pot calipers still work better than the originals due to being radial and I've also fitted Goodridge hoses as well. The brakes are...

Just fitted 06 R1 front forks WOW!!!

I haven't riden the bike alot since I finished the conversion due to the weather conditons we've had in the UK but I haven't experienced an issues with the fender touching the rad on the few outings so far.

Just fitted 06 R1 front forks WOW!!!

Pretty much, the R1 shock uses the same mounting points but is 15mm shorter which is why I fitted the adjustable linkage. You will need to move / reposition the rectifier because the R1's shock has a reservoir which is to big for the original space. I fabricated the bracket you can see...

Just fitted 06 R1 front forks WOW!!!

The wheels are powder coated, I've been thinking of changing the colour of the wheels but can't decide what colour or whether to do it. Snows hit the UK today so I won't be in a rush to do anything!!!!

Just fitted 06 R1 front forks WOW!!!

I suppose I'm use to a quicker steering bike as I've always have FZR's, GSXR's, CBR's and my last bike a 99 R1. You may notice the rear of mine is raised as well, it's about 30-35mm so it's a lot different than standard. It really turns well now and the brakes are better as well (not that FZ1...

Just fitted 06 R1 front forks WOW!!!

You use the original FZ1 triples, The first thing to do is unbolt the original calipers and remove them, I just hooked them over the rad cowl. I then removed the front fender and then remove the front wheel. You just loosen the bolts on the top and bottom yokes and once loose just twist each...

Just fitted 06 R1 front forks WOW!!!

I didn't take any pictures of the swap but this is a picture of the bike after conversion and here is a picture of the rear shock and the linkage I used so the rear it totally adjustable I had to relocate the rectifier, I basically refitted it upright instead of flat and make a...

Just fitted 06 R1 front forks WOW!!!

As the title says I've just bought and fitted a pair of R1 front forks with radial brakes. First I've got to say how easy it was, it's a straight swap and took about an hour start to finish including bleeding the brakes. The list of parts you need are:- Pair of 06 R1 Front Forks Pair of...

    Fitting an R1 Rear Shock

The height adjuster would be useful on any FZ1 I would imagine whether it was used for the shorter riders out there or to quicken the steering a tad or just for looks. If you need the parts drop me a line and I'll either send the details or buy the parts for you and send them on.:D

    Fitting an R1 Rear Shock

The bike is now back on the road and works really well, I took the wife out for a blast yesterday to see how it handled two-up and I have to say I'm well impressed. It probably cost me £60 GBP all-in to do the conversion which I would say is a real bargain. The rear end is now adjustable for...

    Fitting an R1 Rear Shock

Finally finished the rectifier bracket, it now sits upright instead of flat to make room for the shock reservior Also just bought a mini blowtorch so I can fit my copperdawg modded flies plus also about to fit viper stripes to match my Roof helmet should look cold (if it doesn't I can...

    Fitting an R1 Rear Shock

The link bar is made of chrome moly steel and the rose joints are motorsport grade ultra high performance 10mm steel. The original is aluminium alloy so I should say the new linkage is stronger but we'll see, if the rear of the bike collapses then you'll be right. Lets hope the motorsport...

    Fitting an R1 Rear Shock

Yes I finished the bike today and rode it this afternoon, the rear has more feel, more controlled. Plus I've jacked the rear by 15mm so it turns quicker. It's made the front feel soft by comparison so I'll try and stiffen that up. I'll probably look into fitting the R1 front forks to complete...
