I don't think the not finding neutral is tied in with the bike quitting.
How are the fuel filter and the fuel screen in the tank? Maybe they are dirty and the fuel is not getting through?
I believe that if the EXUP cables are overly tight that could give the 7000rpm error.
First the caliper and rotor binding might be this. On one side of the front wheel there are letters and numbers cast into the spokes. These need to be on the left side of the bike. If the wheel is put on the incorrect way this can cause the binding issue. Been there done that. You would...
It could a worn front sprocket. When they wear they develop a hook to the teeth. I have had this happen and I did get a similar noise when starting off.
Sounds like fuel starvation. How does the fuel filter look? Is the fuel pump working.
It may be a charging issue. But, if you put in a fresh and fully charged battery the bike would certainly run for more than just a couple of minutes.
After it dies will the motor turn over, even if...
Is this something new or has it been a problem for a while?
How does it run after it is up to temp?
Is the performance flat at small throttle openings?
Have the carbs been apart?
Does the bike have a jet kit?
It could be:
1. Accumulation from a previous owner that never cleaned anything.
2. A counter shaft that is leaking
3. A shift shaft seal that is leaking.
First thing to do is clean the area real well. Get some brake cleaner, paper towels and a toothbrush to do a proper job. If you can get...
I couldn't quite follow your description. But I found this diagram of what you are looking to do.
1. Battery + power goes through the fuse and connects to the normally open side of the relay contacts. (The numbers shown for this relay may differ from yours).
2. The common of the relay's...
With a 4 amp draw for the grips an relay from 10 amps and up is fine. Connect the battery to the normally open side of the relay and the grips to the common.
You want to wire the relay control to something that has power only when the key is on. Otherwise, if you forget to turn off the grips...
The dealer could most likely get you the touch up paint.
For online here are 2 suppliers: ColorRite Motorcycle Paint and 66 Auto Color paint specializing in Spray Max professional auto paint and motorcycle paint..
Also check with some of the local paint shops.
Setting the float heights is more than just holding the carbs at some random angle.
This is from the Factory Pro website
There is a good example of setting the height HERE
The Oxfords are nice, I have a set on my bike.
Run it through a relay so they will go off when you shut down the bike. I forgot one morning and after work came out to a dead battery.
Try these guys, https://www.66autocolor.com/. Someone at work used them for the original paint color on an 1975 RD 350 project. The match was beautiful.
Seeing as to what you have already gone over I would think a damaged wire in the harness or a connector connection that is marginal. Take a look at the schematic to see which wires to focus on. Also, I believe there 2 power feeds to the cluster. Maybe one of those.
