Any recent tire upgrade opinions? / brands / models to stay away from?

Gen 1 with 180 here. Just replaced my PR4s with another set of PR4s. In hind sight i can’t believe the price I paid for them in Nov 2025. $300 for the set.

My problem is getting rid of the take offs. My tire changer guy doesn’t take them so I have to wait for my town to do re-cycle events which only happen once a year. May have to go back and join BJs Club. They take them for $5 a piece.

I installed Michelin Road 6's last year. They have been working very well. No problems at all. I have to admit I haven't pushed them super hard, but I feel they would take it.
Rear, 190/50ZR17
Front, 120/70ZR17
I had a shop mount and balance them for me and dispose of the old tires.

I'll agree on the Road 6's. I've been running them since they came out, and the Road 5's before. I have tried some other tires in the middle of some of the Roads, but I really never saw an improvement over the Roads, so I'm back with the roads, and will probably not switch again, unless Michelin decides to stop making them! I'm not a knee-dragger, but these tires feel solid in the curves and on wet roads.

One big thing for me is that I do all my own tire work, and the Michelins are much friendlier to the spoons than the Dunlops and Continentals I've had. The tires perform very well, and are easier to spoon on. OK... I'm good with that!

Flash, do they give you good mileage?

Well... they last longer than any other tires I've had. I guess it's not a huge difference. I get about 4500 to 5000 miles out of a rear tire. The PR6's and PR5's have been the highest mileage. I change tires at the wear bar, and I tend to be a bit harder on the throttle than some. I remember riding with Sammax (from FZ1OA... RIP), and he was getting 10K or more out of the PRs, whichever number that was at the time. I've never done that!
