brake lights won't turn off

Hey guys. I just picked up my 2005 FZ1 last night. I had my buddy come with me to pick it up. When we got to my house, he told me that the brake lights never came on. I checked the fuses. All are good. I then pulled the bulbs. I noticed they are double filament. I also noticed that both filaments remain lit at all times. If I'm not mistaken, one should be for the running lights, and one should be for the brakes. Can somebody please advise me as to what could be causing the brake lights to remain on constantly. I would start at the brake light switches. There is one at each brake lever, unplug them one at a time if that's not it make sure they are moving properly.
