Clutch Finger

All those miles catching up. I guess it’s also called trigger finger. Anyone had issues with their fingers on the left hand having difficulty opening and closing? My left ring finger has been giving me a locked up sensation when opened and closed. I see you can use advil and other anti-inflamatories. Anyone actually had surgery to correct it? Going to start using my index finger for relief

Yes, I can lay my left hand flat with no discomfort. I’m familiar with D. contracture. Had a co-worker with it.

My right hand is fine. When I make the "pull in the clutch motion" I get mild pain in two lower joints on the two middle fingers. At times it feels like my ring finger locks / clicks either open or closed. It’s more noticeable off the bike than it is actually pulling clutch in. I had read that it was possible to hit a spot in your palm with a needle (surgery) and correct it by lengthening something.

My cable isn’t that old but I’ll take another look at it for lube.

Isleoman,

I cover both the brake and the clutch levers with 2 fingers (pointing and middle).

Awkward at first, but works for me.

I use four fingers on the clutch and two on the brake.
Nice long ride yesterday and my clutch hand is sore like arthritis in my index finger knuckles.
At 64 I guess this shouldn't be a shock, but it is a new sensation.

My trigger finger “carpal tunnel” was getting to be too much of a pain. Saw Dr. yesterday and have hand “procedure” scheduled in 10 days. My concern was he’d say I shouldn’t ride any more. Dr. was confident I would be as good as new in a month. Woohoo.

My left ring finger occasionally locks up in closed position and I’ve been getting concerned about being able to put the full force of my left arm/hand into action if something unexpected happens like the bike tipping over etc. Been having issues autographing checks as well which is as much writing as I do these days.

Good luck with the procedure. Let us know how it works out.

Getting old is definitely not for those without intestinal fortitude. Things you take for granted start wearing out, and that's if you're lucky.
My riding buddy is 79 , so the bar for me is pretty high. I just try to keep up and enjoy it while I can. Every day truly is a gift!

I can’t wait for the procedure which only takes about 20 minutes, unfortunately the Dr called in sick and its rescheduled for a couple weeks from now.

I’ll be New Hand Luke come 2026. It’s really the thing that tires me the most on long rides. I’m old…. but fit …...and I don’t want to give up just yet.
