Here ya go. I got home from the mountain by about 4:15pm. Before I locked her away until tomorrow, I took a couple of shots for you Adam. You may not be able to see but there is a flat rubber washers in between the fairing and that bolt on the outside. Inside (hidden) I used the factory rearset washer, back in it's original place. I hope this helps you.

It does....but unfortunately, I'm not diggin' the skunk body work with the black lowers. (might also have someting to do with the off silver for the upper fairing) Still investigating my options....

as for the bar like pieces -- maybe 1/8" diameter -- what are those for?

Those go in the same bolt holding in the cowl inserts towards the rear of the bike. You unscrew the rear most bolt on the insert, then insert the end of the bar over it and reinstall the bolt. That in turn connects the fairing at the top section.
