With the problems with the welds on 2006 2007 models cracking I`m surpised someone hasn`t come up with some kind of frame brackets to help stiffen the frame like the ZRX1100/1200 that someone came up with...

I guess no one has heard of anything — too bad!
What does it intail? If you were going to somehow reinforce the welds could you weld over them? Easy enough to remove the gas tank, but I wonder if it’s safe for the electrical system.
Wow,I wish i had the education/experience to run one of those machines...Oh, I see what you mean, Yea good idea. I have a CNC machine, I could design and cut one out. Interesting idea.

This is my 1st Yamaha so Im finding out all the ins and outs of this bike and one of them is the frame welds and the other is the rotor.. I got the rotor done and now Im treating my bike with kid gloves going down bumpy roads thinking the frame might develop a crack maybe...
I had 4 ZRX's over the years and that's what made me think of frame supports but couldn't find any info anywhere...
Thanks for the reply...
Thats what some do is re weld the cracked weld...But I`m trying to be proactive and stop the stress point before it breaks so Im not riding around wondering when my bike is going to split in half at 70mph... And fixing the crack is pretty labor intensive....Motor comes out along with all attached components... I was looking at my bike trying to figure out mounting points and it looks like each side has existing holes already in the frame that could possibly be used... Remind you I`m no engineer so I`m not sure if they could be used or not...I will try to take some close up pic`s and post them...I make guitars with the CNC, the software is a bit of a learning curve, but not too bad.
I don’t understand where a frame support should go to help compensate for the welds. I’ve seen some photos of the weld cracks. Why can they just be re-welded?
I guess I should've put an "LOL" after that statement so people knew I was joking. I never said the bike would disintegrate at high speeds, but if someone didn't know what to look for and HAD been riding around with a cracked frame for weeks,or months, and decided to ride a wheelie for some reason, there's no telling what could happen to the bike with a cracked frame...Still,I doubt it would "desintergrate"...From what I’ve heard, if the weld cracks at 70 the bike still has enough to hold together.
Has anyone heard of the bike disintegrating at high speeds?

From what I’m reading about the frames, some guys report cracks not only on the side weld under the tank but near the steering head. It makes me wonder about doing wheelies and coming down hard on the front wheel. I’ve heard if you come down too hard you can break the wheel hub, not to mention the steering head frame welds. It just got me thinking.
Interesting .... I checked my side welds, but never the steering head.
As to the disaster you described- man would that be embarrassing (much less painful).
To land a full on wheelie to ending up in the ditch when the bike falls out from under you.
More of a reason to keep my 16th sprocket.
I'm afraid I'd be a unicycle rider on the 17th tooth the way it is described.
Wow....Thanks for the heads up...I will be checking that out...From what I’m reading about the frames, some guys report cracks not only on the side weld under the tank but near the steering head. It surely looks like someone with some welding and fabbing skills could make it a workable piece stiffening up that part of the frame...I came across these while looking around

I can only imagine they would add some strength, depended on where they mounted up.
Getting past the looks, not exactly a look I'm digging offhand.
