Was on the highway and spotted an old man riding him fast without a helmet, caught up to him going 140+ kept going for a while.

All of the sudden gages turn of bike is complete off.. checked ignition and killswitch. After stopping the bike checked all the connection, at home tried a jumper cable to the battery no response..

Anyone with similar experiences, what should I start checking first? It’s raining a lot now but later I plan on checking the fuses, use a multitul to see where the power goes if the battery indeed is still good, and figure out where the fault is.

Never used a multitul, will be looking for the schematics for the bike and learn more about it. I plan on re doing the wiring on the bike and eventually do the entire bike houses connectors that seals and valve check..
bike had 80k miles to the gage, guy that sold me said 36k.

For now I just need it running, I’m going to miss a interview today because of it

First off never try to catch an old man...........never works out.

You have lights? No lights then battery or fuses.

Ignition.

Try spraying a little WD40 (a little) or electronics cleaner into the key slot and work the key around some. I had same occurrence at lower speed, died .....pulled over waited a while and it restarted. Happened again and I tried the WD40 based on other reports on FZ1OA. Was fine after that.

If that don't work check large white connector inside the rubber boot on the wiring loom under tank looking for over heating?

None of that works.......... get out the multi-meter.

Check the ignition fuse next to the starter relay. I had crazy flickering and sputtering that ended up being a loose socket for that fuse. If that fuse is removed you lose all ignition power. In my case the engine vibrations caused it to vibrate loose and flicker.

Also on these old bikes, go over EVERY electrical connector, disconnecting and cleaning. While troubleshooting that issue I found quite a few corroded connectors.

Thank you guys, I should have mentioned earlier, it was the main fuze, the 30 amp right next to the battery.
But while o have you here, any advice on how to get a clutch kit without having to buy part by part from Yamaha?
They are selling the plates for 14-25 a piece, I just got a $50 kit from eBay and oh boy was that a bad idea..
if I can’t find anything under 200 bucks I might go for barnett or ebc.
But the best advice is to get oem so I hope I can make it happen..

According to chat gpt this is the part number: 5LV-W0078-00

I can’t figure out how to get the actual part numbers, did not find it in the manual or on the Yamaha website besides the individual parts
