Is anyone aware of new GenII's with head gasket issues? I've contacted the local dealer to see about getting it fixed when the riding season is pretty much over. I noticed the seepage at around 500 miles, and based on the amount, I'd say it's started immediately. The bike had 0.8miles on it when I bought it. Anyway, they said they could fix it. I just don't like the having ANY problems with a new bike that I haven't even made the first payment on.

Thanks in advance for any info available.

Have not heard of any such issues with thew Gen II bikes. I can't imagine that it's anything specific to the 2010 models as Yamaha has not really made any revisions to the engine for that model year. More than likely just an isolated incident.

Actually, this has been reported a few times in the other forum. Seepage seems to take care of itself after some miles.

Certainly, don't let the bike go out of warranty with oil still seeping but I wouldn't jump the gun and have the dealer man handle the engine till you give it a bit of time to settle in. Good luck!

My 2008 has been dry as a bone since I bought it new in late 2008 and I've got almost 17,000 miles and have never seen even a hint of oil or coolant anywhere. I do know what you mean though. The Jap engines have developed a reputation for being oil tight and I don't think I ever owned one that had an oil leak problem and that would be about 17 of them. I've owned 5 Harleys and that's a different story. Although only two were really bad, I can't say they came close to a Jap engine for oil tightness. I don't recall riders on this forum complaining about oil leaks but anything is possible with a high reving, high compression multi.

I think that you may find that this is oil from the original assembly. This will stop. If you clean it off, you will most likely not see it again. Unless you have blocked the crankcase breather, then you could blow the half round plugs and get lots of oil seepage.

10,000 miles here and dry as a bone. The only bikes I've had that leaked oil were a Husky 610sm and a Ducati Multistrada 620...
