New Breed crash cage?

I have the SW Motech engine cage and I love it. Put some highway pegs on it for comfort as well.

How far do the SW-Motech's come out from the side? When I had the lowside I also bent the handlebars, so I was wanting something that came out further than the sliders (3 inches?).

I had looked at th SW's but didn't think they came out enough.

Anyone have experience with the R-Gaza's or CrazyIron cages?

Unfortunately I was able to test mine this past winter. The SW Motech cage took the brunt. The bar end was barely touched. Oh, I bent a peg too.

Based on a person, I’ve talked with that went down.
Would also try to find fork sliders, engine case sliders, rear-pegs-to-sliders conversions, swing arm spools, lever guards, rear axle though slider.
Worth the protection now than replacement later.

Here you go!

Do you like those grips on the FZ? I have had the same pair on every bike I have ever owned, and I'm thinking of putting them on the FZ as well.

The Puig belly pan is probably the only one that will fit with crash bars. I was able to mount it up parallel to the lower bar by using a nut on the lowest mounting bolt that attaches to the hanger. If you get one you will see exactly what I'm talking about. I am considering slightly trimming the upper edge of the belly pan where it contacts the bar to get it to mount a little higher, for a better angle, but it works fine the way it is for now...

Here's a pic for reference...
Thx jboat. Nice bike btw.

I'll have to play with the belly pan that I have and the crash bars, plus I also want to add stainless headers, eliminating the cat, with the muffler just behind the belly pan.

Just finishing off a Triumph Tiger 800 build before I start the FZ1.

Will start a build post when I start....

Based on your picture I decided to do exactly the same. Installed the bars yesterday, and am currently awaiting delivery of the highway pegs. It will make my 2300km tour next month quite a bit more comfortable.

How much of a pain was it for you to remove the motor mounting screw? I found access to the nut (on the left side) very inconvenient, as none of my wrenches fit in that tight corner and I didn't have any long sockets. To top that off, the hex socket head bolt on the right side couldn't easily clear the plastic part of the crankcase cover. That mean it was a 2-man job, one pushing down on the plastic while I hammered carefully on the screw-end on the other side of the bike.

These grips came with the bike. Yes I do like them. The bike also came with heated grips Firstgear(thin wired heat patch under both grips)They were great until the heating mechanism broke. I then replaced with Oxford heated grips and live them. They are a little thicker and absorb vibrations very well!

I have the SW Motech bars, but not fitted.
My question is would a belly pan fit with the bars in place?
Cheers

Yes! I have done it and can supply pics later today. I wanted the carbon fiber bellypan shown in the pic. Did research and noted the Puig does fit without issue. To mount a “full sized” bellypan I had to use washers. This pushes the cage out enough for the pan to fit barely touching on both sides.

Here are the pics of my SW Motech engine guard with a carbon fiber bellypan. The washers allow room for the pan without squeezing it.

How did you mount the pegs on the crash bar? Mine arrived today, and they come with a 25mm and a 32mm mounting clamp. The SW-Motech crash bar being 27mm won't take either. Did you drill through the bar to mount the peg directly without a clamp?

I used the MFW folding crashbar pegs 21-28mm. The folding part is cool but it does not last. The vibration of the engine causes the pivot point to fail. I removed the pivot/folding part and mounted my stock pegs with rubber for comfort. I added the OEM springs for pivot

Good info, thnx! I found the MFW (which seem to be out of stock nearly everywhere), they'll be here in a few days. Your existing pegs were the typical, standard ones with the 8mm internal thread?
