Shining up exhaust collector, has anyone done it?

I just picked up a replacement exhaust header to replace my damaged one and I got the chrome header pipes polished up nicely. So now I am wondering about the collector section. It has what appears to me to be a dark colored coating. Does anyone here know if this is some type of rust inhibiting coating? Has anyone polished up the collector and how did that turn out? Am I better off leaving it alone?

Yea I think on either Gen the OEM collector / EXUP is never going to be a bright shine, luckily it’s not very visible

I’ve seen pictures of exhaust that eliminate the collector EXUP assy so that every thing is shinny all the way to the way to the muffler. Post up a pick of your efforts.
