Quick Riding Through Skaggs Springs Road Video

Today, I went for a nice spirited ride out to Skaggs Springs Road with my buddy on a ZX6R. It's only 30 minutes from my house, and these are definitely some of the best twisties I've ridden.

:wow: I'm late to this party, but very nice video. What tires are you running? Looks like some good lean action. Do you have stock gears or a 16T front sprocket? Were you in 2nd or 3rd most of the time?

Curvy roads and curvy women

Be careful out there! I enjoyed that in "original" quality. Very sharp!

Thanks! I'm running the Pilot Power 3's in a 190/50, but next set I'm going with the 190/55. I absolutely love them! They've taken my confidence to a new level from the stock Pilot Roads. They stick like glue at full lean, and after 2500 miles running 34f/34-36r psi, they look like they'll go for about 5-6k. I've been considering the Q3's as my next set, but I don't really see the point in losing mileage off the tire when I don't even need the extra grip. I am running the 16t sprocket, and most of my riding is in 3rd and 4th. I definitely will be safe and I always ride within my own limits. Here are 2 other videos from another thread I made. The first one is faster, and the second one is fastest. :) I've been loving the 2.7k on my Retina Macbook! http://www.998cc.org/forum/fz1-videos/18543-best-twisties-northern-california.html

I've been considering the PP3's as my next set of tires too. I'm on the PR3's right now. I've seen some reports on the PP3's saying they don't stick as well in the last 1/3rd of their life. It may have to do with heat cycles, and it may not hold true for you. I think I'll try the 190/55 next time too.

As I was watching, I couldn't think of a gear that matched those RPMs with that speed, so I assumed the 16t front. Have you done a speedo healer too?

I make it through winter watching on board motorcycle videos. I always like the natural sound with speedo and tach in view. Thanks for posting. I hope to dust off my GoPro and take some scenic video to post. I don't have any twisty roads around me, so trees and corn may be the best I can post.

I've also heard of people saying they start to lose performance in the last bit of their lifespan as well as people talking about blue discoloring from heat cycling. I haven't noticed either of those problems, and hopefully I won't. I don't have a speedo healer, so it's about 10% off now (indicated 100 = 90). On my bike in 3rd gear, 5k = 50mph, 6k = 60mph, etc. In 4th, 5k = 60mph, and in 2nd, 5k =40mph, so you get the pattern. On board cams are my favorite. They're the best thing I've got when I'm sitting at home wishing I was riding lol.

You will not be sorry with the 190/55's. I am Never going back to the 50's. btw I know you didnt ask but on that last 25mph turn you were to far inside that's why it kicked you wide on the exit..you have to read my book..lol great video.

Yup, I've only heard positive things about the 190/55's. Yes thanks for the advice lol. I always rewatch my videos to try to catch my mistakes. That is the one decreasing radius turn there, and not to mention that I am extremely paranoid about slipping out on tar snakes haha. Oh, since you're running the 55 profile, how much taller does it make the bike? I'm 5'6" - 5'7" on a good day, and with both feet down, I only get half of each foot down. Not that it bugs me at all though, because I always only use 1 foot at stoplights, but the only place it makes a difference is when duck walking the bike around.

It is a little taller I think a 1/2 in but not to bad at all. Bike sits 1/4 taller? I agree with the tar snakes I ride Hwy3 all the time and it is famous for them. The easy moving the bike through the corners is so much better with a 55. Plus the bigger contact patch on the lean. You wont regret it. I might scare myself if I ever make a video it might be one of those what I think I am doing and what I am actually doing type thins..lol
