Just wanted to open a discussion about GPS Theft Trackers.

Considering the amount of $$ we spend on our bikes, having them stolen is not just a financial burden, but an emotional one as well.

Has anyone done any research or installed a GPS theft tracker on their bike?

I did a quick search and could not find a GPS thread relating to theft.

Essential items would be GPS, a SIM (3G/4G) and a backup battery. You can then send an SMS request to the bike and it replies with GPS coordinates.

Thoughts?

So... just add another t-mobile line to my plan for another $10.00 a month in hopes that I never have to use the text feature?

seems worth it to me. I was recently just looking into a bike alarm with tilt sensors. But I am also concerned with a drunk kid on a college campus (I often am on a college campus) knocking over my bike or kicking it because it is being noisy after someone bumped it. So for theft purposes, I would rather have GPS functionality, find the person, and press charges for any damages. Though if someone is stealing a bike you will more then likely be hard pressed to get any money out of them via civil court in the US.

I've done a bit of research into this. I have this one on order through my local dealer & plan on installing it soon.

Kenma Australia: Performance Motorcycle Accessories, GPS Tracking Device

Be carful with ones from O.S. as they may not be on the same mobile frequencies we use here. I spoke to the guy at Kenma about his one & he was very helpful. It shouldn't be too hard to install, I just need to figure out the best place on the bike to hide it.

Here in England a tracker is no good.

The government give everyone so many 'human rights' that the police could find the house containing the stolen bike but need a warrant to enter for fear of offending the thiefs..

After having my truck stolen on my bday in '94 I will not own a vehicle, car or motorcycle, without some kind of tracking device ever again. When I bought my '09 FZ1, I inquired at the dealership and was offered two options - LoJack and one I'd never heard of, Mogotrack.

When I asked what the difference was - LoJack requires special tracking equip while Mogotrack uses an ordinary laptop. I bought the Mogotrack equip and service. I can see mine sitting in the entry foyer of my house right now via my laptop and if I ever did get unlucky enough to have it stolen, as soon as I could get to a laptop, I could find where it was and get the police involved. I suspect I could track it via smart phone, but I've never checked that aspect - which is something I guess should do.

I checked out their website, buy you cannot order from them - is there an ongoing fee associated with the service? How much is it?
