New bike for Christmas?

So, my wife has been trying to buy me a new bike for about 6 months now and I've been saying "No, I'm happy with what I have, I don't want to spend the money and I don't know what I would replace it with". This is not too bad of a deli-ma to be in. :sport12: Choices.
1) Keep my bike
2) Ninja 1000 (pretty cool with lots of power, available color matched bags from the dealer).
3) Z1000 (also very cool).
4) Vstrom 650 (would be a very economical tourer but may be too slow for me, I've been interested in this bike for a while).
5) ZX10r (the coolest but not very comfortable and the most pricey).
6) R1 (Need I say more).
7)FZ1 (this cool forum is a plus).

Any advice.... :sport12:

I vote for the aprilia, Beemer second! Either way you can't lose! Hurry and decide so you can post some pics of the new ride!
 
Well, since your 02 really isn't worth anything, why not add a 2nd bike thats different like an adventure, a dual sport, or a cruiser? You'll have the awesome FZ1 and something different.
 
I keep my bike in a shed in the back yard and I think I would feel like a real tool if I had a BMW back there. I want to have my carport converted into a garage. 2 bikes would be nice if I only had the space.

I think this is a good problem!

First off: Your wife is a KEEPER!

Secondly: You are a lucky man to A.) Have a wife such as yours, and B.) Be happy with your current bike!

IF you let your wife get you a new bike, then get something so different from your current one that you can enjoy a different kind of biking. It need not be expensive or totally new.


Just my 2 cents for what they are worth.
 
Ok. You're relatively young. When was the last time you road a traditional sportbike? While they are powerful and nimble, they are quite uncomfortable. At my age, its a no brainer but at your age the ergos aren't as bothersome. Even when I was your age, even though I loved sportbikes, I never bought one. After an hour on one, the fun kind of dissipates. Go take a ride in a sportbike-focus on the ergonomics rather than falling in love with the performance.

I still think you should keep the FZ1 and pick up a Stratoliner, Roadliner, or Raider.
 
I gotta disagree with uncomfortable ergos. For most yes it may be uncomfortable but I am better on a sport bike than upright. I'm 29 years old
, 5'10" 175lbs, and I have done 800 miles in two days no problem on my 2008 R6 I had, but doing 300 miles in a day on the fz1 I was in pain.

I'm totally not the normal, but some people do better with aggressive ergos. I think mine comes from riding dirtbikes since I was 6

OP - I agree get something a bit different than you got if you keep fz1. If you sell FZ1, look at what you are doing on rides and what you want to do and pick from there.

The way I chose bikes-
1)budget
2)what riding style/usage
3)which bikes come in on budget and suit your style
4)which bike turns you on when you look at it?
5)ride all the suitable bikes for as long as possible, a quick blast around the block doesn't count and short list the ones you like. Write down Likes/dislikes and what changes you can make to fix the dislikes.
6)research reliability, known issues, mods etc.
7)buy

It sounds so clinical but I've bought with my heart before and regretted it AND lost $$$ on changeover

At the end of the day, what actually suits you and what looks good on paper are 2 different things.
 
A man would have to be crazy to think there is a better bike than the FZ1..... Well, that's my humble opinion whether it be right or wrong, HAHAHA!!!!
 
I still think my 2012 FZ1 is the most comfortable bike I have owned. Cruisers hurt my back, shoulders and legs and I never feel that I am part of the bike.

But then I'm a road cyclist and ride a few hundred to a couple thousand miles a year in the drop position.

BTW at over sixty I felt that the old man sportbike was appropriate. However, I still like crotch rockets.
