Normally our town population is around 90,000 plus.
This week is National Cherry festival and since our local ice cream shop was voted best in America and the county was rated in the 10 best places for vacation it's gotten kinda crazy.
They expected over a million people to be in town this week.
It's hard to get around town regularly because of poor road design and being water locked. Now it's almost impossible. I've never seen anything like this before.
You can't even get into town.

Glad I work from home now.

I took a ride over there last Saturday (reference the map) and the traffic was nuts. And it looked like the cherries were still green on the tree! Our little town is jampacked full of downstaters this weekend too, busiest I have seen in quite a while.

Not too bad, I (we) ride over there a few times a summer. We wanted to ride up to Mackinac, have lunch, and come back down US23 but she had to work that night so we shortened up our ride and cut across. Used to play in a ball tounament in Boyne City and try to run in a 5 or 10k in Charlevoix every year. Knee surgery is on the 16th so this summer is out.

I live in a town that has 10,000 people during the week but can swell to four times that number during the weekend in the summer. I just don't go into town on the weekend unless I absolutely have to.

I live between a couple popular sites Longwood Gardens and Brandywhine battlefield. Thats when i take off to Maryland or Almish country

Born in Detroit spent a lot of time in lower p. TC is a fantastic city, love the dunes. In Daytona we have 2 times a year when our population swells to 150,000++ bikes alone but after living in London, commuting in Paris the traffic is just another environment to adapt to. I rarely let anything come in the way of my ride. CHERRIES!!!mmmmmm. I'd ride for cherries.

Except I don't need to ride anywhere for cherries.
This is out my kitchen window
If I'm on the bike it's really early, but usually I just stay off during labor day memorial day and cherry festival (which includes the 4th of July).
Seems like someone gets killed or seriously injured every year at cherry festival, traffic is usually gridlocked during the day and people are out getting so drunk they can't stand.

Of course our town can barely handle the population it has let alone 10x that number. Something like that is bound to happen.

Can't wait for Labor Day, the tourists go home and we get our roads back.

I was through TC in Mid Sept 09. Never forget as I was riding north from town when all of a sudden the road ended-wtf?? Checked my map, I was on 31 not 37-duh! Oh well it was a nice ride out there. I really enjoyed the road from TC to Mackinaw including the Tunnel Of Trees, that was a very fun day on the bike.

No wonder you got lost 31 merges with I 75 to go over the bridge. 37 ends at the top of old mission peninsula. ;)

Oh well at least old mission is a nice ride. I go up the peninsula a few times a year just because, plus you got to see a ton of the vineyards. Wine making and microbrews are huge in this area.
