Welcome to the site. Nice bike. I know little of Gen 2s but I’ve noticed some with no fairing and headlight similar to yours, and others with a typical Gen 2 fairing and more typical headlight(s). Did they sell two versions or is this after market

From looking at the motorcycle specs website it seems the FZ-1 N was the Naked version (makes sense) and the FZ-1 Fazer was the half faired version. I don't think they sold the N version here in the states. Looks like they sold a fully faired touring model, designated FZ-1 Fazer TE, in other markets as well.

Thanks, I did look thru the various Gen 2 varietys on Partshark and din’t see a non fairing version. Thanks for the explanation.

Another source of confusion for me (there are many) was a post I had seen from a Gen 1 owner looking to go naked after crash with similar headlight system.
 
Plug is good enough for me on the rear tire.

Never had a front pick up an object, but I’ve just jinxed myself. If it were a at mid-life or more on the front I’d probably go new, although I hate breaking up sets and having them not wear out at the same time. It’s easier to bring both to the shop at the same time. I’ll have to ask my shop what a patch would cost. My guess is $50.

It's the rear. I have used them numerous times. I had one fail after a long time, but others have worked just fine for the life of the tire. Bummer that it's a nearly new tire.
I do my own, so I'll do it (maybe) when I get around to it.

I went decades without having a flat. If you’re lucky you discover them at home. Got stranded in western MA about five years ago with the wife. Have had two more since, but I do ride a lot.

As soon as I could order one I got a moto pump https://www.motopumps.com/. threw a plug kit into the package it comes in, along with pencil pressure gauge and everything fits under the Gen 1 seat. There are several good pump repair kit options.

The other thing in the kit is a $20 in case I forget / loose my wallet. (Sounds like the commercial about becoming your parents) (actually more like becoming my grandparents)

Good to be prepared though, I got to work and found it but lucky my mate that rides with me had a pump and the tyre shop in town was open 👌

I have had 3 or 4 that I remember, but I have been riding for 50 years. So not too bad.
Like isleoman I have never had one in the front tire.

Nice looking bike :D I like the lights by your gauges, looks better balanced with them.

Upgrades:
Ivans air box mod
Slip on, decat
Ivans ECU flash

Those 3 things will build a 150hp monster.
You no longer need to block the AIS or do anything with the butterflies. So keep an eye on the year things where posted if you're researching. Some of it is 20 years old.

16T front sprocket. Standard on a gen 2 is 17T, gen 1 however is 16T and a direct swap. This will give you more acceleration. If you pair it with a 190/55 rear tire your speedometer and mileage will remain correct and you'll get quicker handling to boot. Some people add 2 teeth to the rear sprocket for even more acceleration, but start with just the front especially with the above mods. Power wheelies are fun, but only when you ask for them lol.

Stator upgrade, look into this. Basically the original design can fail and cause you to have to replace other parts if it does. My first FZ1 had it happen at around 50k miles, and like 8 years old. Was it thee miles or time? Who knows. Cost me over a grand when it happened though. If you hear something that sounds like a supercharger whine, get it back home immediately. Some never experience it, I replaced mine immediately when I bought my second FZ1.
Also valve check at 26k miles is smart to keep it going for 100k more. I'm annoyed I'm at 24k miles and have to do it this winter lol


Pazzo adjustable levers are nice. I changed handlebars and risers to have an angle that better matches my natural posture (much more comfortable for me, though I put 10k on my first fz1 and never stopped to change them)

Copperdawg makes a sweet belly pan.

Quick shifter can be fun.


Then its suspension and brakes pads. And then she's maxed out.

Yours already has a slip on and tail tidy, so I'd check your bike before ordering parts. I was surprised to find mine had the front sprocket done tgat I only learned cause it was giving me grief to get it off and I counted the teeth on a whim.

Don't forget your gear if you're looking to go faster.
