2025 MotoGP Discussion Thread *SPOILERS*

How can tiny little Aprillia be more competitive than Yamaha and Honda. Entertaining races
They have quicker turn around time for changes.

Something that Japan is trying to catch up on.

Pretty impressive for Yamaha to get a brand new V4 out the door so quick - hopefully they can make it work quickly as well.

Both Honda and Yamaha have hired Italians to help with their race programs. They are already seeing some improvements, but I guess they get to do it again from scratch for 2027.

Was out ofr a ride in the truck today and the wife said she read Marc Marquez had been hurt and was flying home. My first thought was I hope Klurejr has an alibi.

Lots of new faces up front. in both races Bagnia is hard to explain.

I was asleep when it happened - I swear!

But it does show you just how hard it is to win a race if you do not qualify well and have an accident in the pack take you out. Marc's ability to qualify well and start up front certainly helps with his consistency.

Pretty bad mistake by Bezzecchi. Strange turn since the title was decided.
You can tell it was not intentional, looked like Bezz got sucked into the slip stream a bit and he was trying to back out of it and let Marc back in. Marc also had a wider line and swept across the front tire of Bezz - neither was to blame - it was a racing incident.

The championship race would certainly have been more exciting if this had happened in Japan and there was still a chance for Alex to win the title..... and Frankly the rest of yesterday's race and the Sat Sprint were way more fun to watch without MM being out front.

and Aldegur was on FIRE... holy cow.

I agree it was not intentional (no sane person would want to crash at that speed) but I'll give all the blame to Bez. Marc was taking a normal line and there was no gap there and he was in front. Bezzecchi will receive a penalty for it later.
The bump at the edge of the gravel trap turned what might have been an uneventful slide into an injury causing tumble.
Is it more exciting to watch Aldeguer win by seven seconds than it is to watch Marquez win by seven seconds? I'm not sure.

Then the irony there is that he was taken out by the polesitter.

not sure if that is Irony or not - but the more I watch it the less I think Bez should have been penalized. The stupid Aero creates drafts even in turns and it looked like he just got sucked in. Bez was stupid fast yesterday in Practice... holy cow. I am excited for Qualifying today.

I think the penalty is almost as harsh as it should be. Almost.
Yeah, the aero and ride height crap need to go. Yes, it makes them faster but the racing suffers.
They're still 25 or more seconds a lap slower than F1, but that show really sucks.

If I were Marc Marquez I would consider retirement at this point. He has nothing left to prove.

If MM Retired this year it would be great for the sport - but I think he feels the need to prove he is better than Rossi and stay in the game and keep winning. Considering how much he seems to hate Rossi I do not doubt he will do just that.

The racing this weekend was the best of the season with MM out. Also major props to Fabio for that Pole... holy cow he can turn a fast lap - now if Yamaha can just figure out how to not get passed on the straights. Imagine if Fabio was on a Ducati, Aprilla or KTM.... Game over.

2027 will be an interesting year for sure.

Stumbled on this MM “Comeback” episode on FS2. There are parts of it that are interesting. Some of the crash videos are incredible.

I’m more of a manufacturer fan than a racer fan. I don’t appreciate that Ducati is currently the King maker.

Racing is almost always good at Phillip Island because of the nature of the track. This year's version was not as good as usual.
Marc has already proved enough in my opinion, but I wouldn't blame him for staying a few more years. Wouldn't blame him if he retired, either. It's a brutal sport.
The season at this point is meaningless. Not very interesting to me since Marc is out and the title is decided.
I was hoping Quartararo could make a better showing in the race, but it was not to be.

There are signs that that is changing.

I said it many years ago and will repeat it now. MM was successful for many years because he was the only one willing to ride ON THE LINE instead of just inside of it. That is why he got some black flags early in his career and took out his teammate Dani Pedroza in some races.

The commentators would all OOOOHHH and AAAAAHHH at him picking the bike back up off the ground in these incredible saves. And they were spectacular - but that is not a long term strategy.

Every time I saw that all I could think was he will eventually not pick the bike back up from one of these and have a bad crash - - - and that is exactly what happened.

He is very fortunate to have got back to racing at such a high level and his recovery is a pretty fantastic story on it's own.

But you are 100% right - The racing is not as good right now with 6 Ducati's on the track each weekend that are obviously better all around bikes than anything else on the paddock. If MM stayed on the Honda he would not be champion. If he moved from Honda to Aprilla or KTM - he might be closer to the top, but his Brother would have won the championship. Having so many bikes on the grid each week for the last few years has given Ducati much more racing information than any other manufacturer and that does give them an edge.

I hope the regulation changes in 2027 levels the playing field again and we have good racing.

You might recall how dominate Honda was before Dorna required all the manufacturers use the same electronics package. They had something no one else did back in those days - No one could touch them on the back straight at COTA - NO ONE. The season following the change in Electronics had the most diverse season of race winners that I have ever seen and it was my favorite season I ever watched.

I think the lack of good racing is due more to the aero and tire pressure garbage. Is that being addressed with the new rules and new tire supplier?

There are a few motorcycle racing series where all the riders are on identical equipment and the racing isn’t noticeably better. Moto 3 seems to have good contests.
