Bike starts great but I can’t get it in first gear without stalling. Is not the kickstand. The strangest thing is that while the bike is in the center stand with the back wheel free it does engage in all gears.
Thanks

Gen 2 or Gen 1. Sounds like one of your interlock safety switches is faultyy or nor fully engaging. On Gen 1s and probably Gen 2s there a switch on the clutch lever mechanism and another on the side stand.

Since you bike runs poperly on the center stand that suggest (to me) the interlock on the side stand is the issue. Why are you certain thats not the issue. I suspect there are tests in the manuals for the switches.

I didn’t know about the interlock safety switch. I will certainly look into that and hopefully that’s the problem. I thank you for your response. I will let you know.

If the side stand switch is not working why would putting the bike on the center stand have any effect?

Good point. My solution has problems.

So is transmission clunking going into gear while on center stand? Is the clutch working properly and your finding nuetral?

What’s history of bike?

He may have been suggesting that most likely the OP puts the side stand in the up position when on the center stand? Making it seem like a center stand related issue.

Agree with Isle, any more information would be helpful.

The side stand switch is working properly, the reason to use the center stand is to show that the bike does not stall while the back wheel is free. It only stalls while the back wheel is on the ground.

No metal to metal noise. Clutch was replaced recently because of the same problem thinking that was the issue and it needed replacing anyway. This problem started happening slowly meaning, it started one day stalling but kept trying to get in gear and eventually did catch first gear. And one day it just wouldn’t go in gear. Thanks

Seems like for some reason your clutch plates aren’t disengaging, some might say dragging Is this a Gen 1 or Gen 2. Bar Lever is adjusted? Cable isn’t stretched? Lever on top of clutch cover seems to be moving as far as it should?

On Gen 1s it’s possible for item 22 to be inserted one tooth off but that doesn’t explain why it was ok for a while after you changed it. It’s tough to see the clutch operation with the cover off.

If you pull the clutch lever in all the way is it possible to move the lever on top of the clutch cover any further? Might have to use vise grips on it.

Were the old and new clutch plates oem, or after market like Barnett.
