Same here... the fun part is that I used to be wave at by Hardly riders or my wave had a reponse from them most of the time when I had the V Star 650.
But now that I have the FZ1, half of them do not respond. So, I only wave at metrics and scooters, and wave back at Hardly's only if they do it...
2005, 24K miles.
I've been riding this bike for more than 2000 miles (in less than 3 months).
My best tank so far, 49mpg, riding 55~60mph through the finger lakes region in upstate NY, with 2 up.
My worst tank, 40.5mpg, riding 75~80 mph, 2 up, with 2 hard bags and trunk between Corning...
I use a GPS on the cheap!
Garmin Nuvi 200W.
Not intended for motorcycles so I use the suction cup holder that I use in the car mounted on the tach. (I don't need a tach when I travel, especially when I can pretty much tell the rpms by looking at the speed in each gear).
If it's raining...
The wife and I just came back from Lexington, OH to Corning, NY (360 miles).
It’s the first trip in the FZ1 and all I can say is “what a ride”, especially twhen he previous bike was a V Star 650.
Comfort wise, yehh... I missed the VStar a little bit because I can’t stretch my legs on the...
That's a great write up. Few questions:
1) Is there any benefit on doing this with the stock exhaust?
2) Is the factory set up too rich at the high end? (Air box mod + smaller mains = more air and less fuel at high rpm... I think..)
3) Have you dyno'ed this set up?
Thanks.
My first tank ('05 FZ1): 182mi when the light came on. Then fill up the tank with 4 gallons only. (The light came on when I was going downhill).
Anyway, that's about 45 mi/gal with pretty mix riding: backroads, in town, and highway, about 40% two up. I couldn't believe it!! 3 times the power...
That's exactly what I needed to know. I'm taking my time and I'm enjoying it. But I heard that litter bikes "raise the front end as you open the throttle", and I was a little bit concerned about that.
But, based on your responses, this is not quite the case with the FZ1 and that's a good thing...
I'm the happy new owner of a '05 FZ1 and I'm still amazed and to some degree scared of this bike's power... jumping from 35hp/39ft-lb at the rear wheel to 120hp/71ft-lb is a big change.
Anyway, while I'm enojyimg the acceleration power of this bike, I am being very conservative with the...
I'm the new happy owner of a 2005 FZ1.
I'm an engineer and have lived in upstate NY since 2001. Before then in lived in Baja, Mexico, and I ride since I was 11.
This seems to be a great forum, as I already received some help and useful advice from some of you. I hope to get to know this bike...
Thanks for all the details. You just confirm that I got a good deal.
The bike is in great shape and runs great!!
Thanks everyone for your quick replies!! Good forum!
