03 FZ1 lost key

I'm buying a 03 FZ1 from an estate sale.
The key has been lost and front forks are locked.
Anyone have any tricks or hints on how to remove the ignition so I can roll it up on a trailer.
It' been parked in a garage since 2004

You will have to drill out the rivets on the ignition. Then have a key made up once you have the bike home and just reinstall using some metric security bolts. No too much of a big deal.

Man I would spend 50 bucks, etc...and get a key made....think it would be worth it.....as far as loading it up initially your gonna have to lift it....i would not drill it out...

Not sure that a locksmith would charge just $50 to travel onsite and make a key, but that would be the way to go if the price is reasonable. I don't see how you would be able to drill those bolts with the top triple tree on the bike...

You could remove the helmet lock which would require cutting the cable to the seat latch. Take it to a good lock smith to get a couple keys made. The forks are locked with a dead bolt into a heavy bracket welded to the fork head. The gas cap had a security bolt under the cap, so the helmet lock is the easiest thing to remove. Good luck.

When I lost my key once, I called quite a few locksmiths... the cheapest one I could find was $175 to come and make a key on site.... and he didn't offer any guarantee that the existing lock cylinder wouldn't be destroyed.

If that bike has really been parked since "04", I'd be more worried about what it was going to cost to get the carbs straightened out. Unless you got it for a real steal, it may end up costing you more just for a set of carbs to get it to run like it was supposed to. I just went through that with an older bike. Those very small orifices in the carbs can be all but impossible to get completely clean if they sat with fuel in them, which leaves you with a poorly running machine or a new set of carbs.

If that bike has really been parked since "04", I'd be more worried about what it was going to cost to get the carbs straightened out.

I paid 459.00 to have my 76 KZ900 carbs rebuilt. After 4 months (and buying the 08 FZ1) I have yet to install them and try to start the bike, sitting in my garage for 18 years.
