Stupid is as stupid does! as Forest Gump would say. I saw a safety cord in the beginning of the video but didn't see it when he slipped from the rope. Also he wound up having the balance beam again at the end of the video. Where did that one come from???
 
I'm guessing he got the second balance pole from some one in the balloon gondolas. Where else could it have come from?

Or is it a second pole? If you run the tape slowly while he's dropping the pole, it looks to me like someone in the forward gondola grabs it out of the air.

You're right...it does look like someone reaches out and grabs the pole after he loses it.
