I did not realize how much that fugly stock fender did for me until about 2 weeks ago. I got the evotech FE kit and OMFG, every little smother of water on the streets ends on on my entire tail section :(. I can see this will be very annoying but I don't think its worth me putting the stock fender back on.
 
As ugly as it is the rear fender provides protection when riding in the wet, when you eliminate it you give up the protection. Most people put form over function, "if it LOOKS better, by golly, it must actually be better". Most people will take that tradeoff as most riders don't ride all that much in heavy rain, unless you live in northern Europe or the UK.
 
Well after riding for hours in the rain last year the stock fender went back on. If I know it's going to rain I won't ride, but if I'm out on a long ride of a few hours anything can happen.
