Gen2 turn signals on a Gen1?

First off, please don't suggest flush mounts or some other aftermarket / no signals.

I like OEM turn signals. All of my bikes have them and will continue to have them. However I really like the look of the "teardrop" signals on the Gen2 fz1 / FZ6R / newer R6 etc. Has anyone tried installing them, and are they a direct fit?

I don't see why not, as Yamaha has had the same shape for the mounting holes for a very long time. When I sold my FZ, I had no takers for my stock front signals that I had replaced with aftermarket ones, so I gave them to a guy with an 80's Yamaha 360 dualsport. They where a direct fit for the original mounting holes on his bike!

A quick search on Google images and the gen1 look the same at the mounting end.

2001 Yamaha FZ1 (FZS1000N) Flasher Light | Part Shark

Looking at the parts fiche on Parts Shark, there is a slight difference in the shape, between the two generations, but not huge. Will they fit? Find a gen 2 owner that will let you try, or roll the dice and pick up a set on flee bay and try.
