Only way I have ever seen it attached in that location is to attach the GPS mount to the inside of the windscreen. If you have a dark smoke windscreen and use two small black bolts it wouldn't even be that noticeable from the front of the bike.
 
I might try and attach it with a ram long arm or two from the frame just between the steering and clocks.That way I can put it above the clocks next to the screen so I can see the clocks.at the moment I have a ball on the steering nut but I want the gps next to the windscreen which makes for better viewing if I got lost.I only use it for riding abroad anyways,that's why it is an old gps.

Yes, that is correct. Michele and I have the same switch for out grips. :D

FWIW, I also put in the power outlet. I used a wire to ground all the way back to the battery and I tapped into the turn signal running hot. Worked great!
