Higher wattage bulbs overloading alternator?

I was about to pull the trigger on some 100/90 bulbs, but was advised against it by a good friend, stating that the alternators aren't designed to handle much more load. As the lights are on constantly, and the headlights draw would be drawing about 10A instead of 5A, I can see his point.

Anyone care to comment?

Even if the alt could handle the extra load (which I think will be very close on a Gen I) they may fry (deform) your reflectors due to the extra heat.

Agreed... too much heat for the housing and you'll end up with some melted mess. Pick up the HID kit instead.

The modulator I bought is rated for 130W anyway, so that nix's any ideas of using higher wattage bulbs.

Wow haven't seen a lot of modulators in sportbikes, I didn't think you guys used it. No on my cruiser forum, lots of folks have them, well except me. Still skeptical that it helps. Folks just don't look for us on the road period. Modulator or not
