Whats going on everyone?
I just bought a 2005 FZ1 with 5,000 miles on it and just joined up to the forum. I'm loving the bike so far. I'm looking for recommendations on things to modify, have checked over, where I can download a user manual. etc. Any advice for someone new to the bike. Out of curiosity is the 2005 model called the FZS10 or the FZ1?? I've been coming across some confusion on this part lol. Look forward to hearing from everyone.

Andrew

Welcome from a fellow 05 owner. I have the blue one. Yes it is also called the FZS10T, FZS1000, and FZ1 among other things. I think all of the Gen1's (2001-05) have the same designation.

First, check out Pat's site. You can download the owner's manual from the Yamaha website and the service manual from partshark.com. There's a thread on here with more details if you do a search.

As for recommendations, I'll wait for the other gen1 owners to chime in. The first thing I did was install t-rex sliders--the best value in sliders going right now--that I purchased from eBay. I rode my bike stock for nearly two years before I did my first performance mod--a slip on muffler followed by RavenRider's jetting (see my sig for the link).

It is also important that you post pics of your new ride!

My suggestion regarding mods, 1)insert new fuel into tank 2) Turn on ignition 3) Start the motor 4) GO RIDE IT 5) When you return home wipe the bugs off your teeth. :)

Just enjoy it for a while and the folks here will help you part with your money in time.

+1 !!!!.......................

Sadly I'm already seeing ways to part with my money and I've only had the bike for less than a week. Haha. Pics will be soon to follow. Been really busy this week with work. Thanks for the advice so far.

Andrew, my brother lives in Morrison and rides a Gen 1 as well. I'd be he'd be up for a riding buddy. He is also pretty well versed with the Gen 1, I'll let him know about this link and to shoot you a PM.

Andrew, As TimeBombAZ mentioned I do indeed live in Morrison. I have had my FZ1 for about 8 years. It is an awesome bike. We are very lucky with the type of riding we have here in our back yard. The big plus with Denver is that it is hard to build a road straight up and over a 14k foot mountain. That means there is a lot of smile generating corners to be had close to home. :-) I have a factory service manual and I am happy to share...

Thanks for the offer! I'm sure I'll be taking advantage of that as soon as I can get some money saved up to start modifying the bike lol. I'm planning on doing a mountain ride with my cousins coming up here pretty soon. We're going to sturgis later and I need to get use to some long distance riding.

That bike looks untouched by the previous owner!

If there's one thing that you will seriously love...take that stock can and replace it with just about any aftermarket slip-on. That stocker weighs probably 10-12 lbs., and any slip-on you will find will check in under 5 lbs. easy! I had a micron (no longer in business, I guess), and it was light, and sounded real purdy! But, any aftermarket one will add a little giddyup to her!

I had 40K miles on my old '01, before I traded to the new one 6 months ago. You will love it, and enjoy all the great roads up in the hills west of Denver. Maybe I'll see ya when I am doing the Deckers loop on hwy. 67!

Enjoy it, that ride will treat you right! Great color too, btw!

So how come the 2005 FZ1 seems to be the bastard child? When I'm looking around for kits or parts or anything all of them go up to the 2004 bike and then start again on 2006. Very few companies seem to have accessories or kits for the 2005?

No don't pay attention to all that. The 01' to 05' bikes are the same. You can buy anything for any year up to 05' and not have an issue. Why they list stuff like that I don't know. GenI's are all the same so feel free to buy from the other years, 01' to 05'.

Welcome Andrew.
I agree with the advice of just riding but at the same time I feel your pain. When I first bought my bike I thought it was perfect just the way it was......now I routinely pour money into upgrades. LOL
I always seem to upgrade my exhaust. A slip on is all you need for a Gen 1 as the full exhaust upgrades run around $800 and they do not produce enough gain in hp IMO. However, it's your money. Some type of air filter upgrade usually goes with that so your new slip on gets more air.
Suspension upgrades are also real popular. I personally want to upgrade my brakes/brake lines. You have a carburetor so carb kits are real popular.
Grips and seats are also standard upgrades on a lot of bikes.
We have a classifieds section so you can save some coin that way.
Welcome to the addiction. You will feel it in your bank account. :D
