K&N filter, PCIII, velocity stacks add-ons

Thus far I have put a fender eliminator, Yoshi TRC tri-oval pipe and gutted the cat on my 2006 FZ1. Planning on adding a K&N filter, PCIII usb, & thinking about velocity stacks. Might try a 520 chain 16-45 conversion kit as well. I've read nothing but good and increased performance about these. My cousin who is a mechanic and attended many classes said this however:

"i think its a waste of money, k@n filters let more air in with dirt particles, not to mention theres no way your fuel econ will be helped."

Let me know if any of you have had experiences with these. I like to travel long distances so I don't know if going down a tooth in the front will hurt the fuel economy.

Many thanks in advance!

I run a K&N filter in EVERY vehicle I own and always have. THAT won't hurt your fuel economy, and if cleaned and treated correctly it does not let in dirt. I also have every mod, flys, airbox, velocity stacks, exhaust, 16 tooth in the front, and I can say yes, the 16 tooth will effect your fuel economy.
Sorry, your friend and his classes are wrong.
