Lucus ck4

What type of experience with oil are you looking for? Mileage? Transmission clunking? Consumption?
I've been running mobile 1 and this bike likes to run on the hotter side so I get more noise ( chatter) than lim comfortable with. I know these bikes make alot of noise and seen people using diesel oil. I can get a pretty good deal on 5 gal of the Lucas and was checking if anyone has used it and how well it did. Not to worried about mileage cause this thing sucks in that department already. Bike shifts pretty good and no consumption on the mobile 1.

It won’t break the bank to give it a try. I’m skeptical you’ll see the improvements you seek. Are you at altitude in CO? Gen 1 or Gen 2. Ask because I wonder if it’s more a Gen 1 jetting issue as regards running hot

It's a gen 2. It only kicks the fans on in town but it hovers around 190/195 rippin the highway. I've taken out t stat and it does better. Have new one just haven't chance to put it in yet. Still alot of chatter at normal temps that probably are just normal.May have to accept these motors are noisy and not sweat it. Still have factory exhaust and I know different additives in oil can damage cat. Hope to put an R1 radiator but budget won't allow that yet. Same with ivans reflash and pipe. .. but till then, there's 5 gal sale on the Lucas but if its not safe, its not a deal. It's all about the deal these days. Thanks for your input

Just match the required specifications in the manual to the oil you want to use. The repair manual lists API SE, SF, SG or higher. The current "higher" spec would be SM or SN. Both the Rotella T6 (that I use, ~$25 at Walmart), or the Lucas that you found on sale will meet that oil spec.

A couple of specs that I got a lot of the discussion on the FZ0OA forum were the SL and SJ, "energy conserving" oil specifications. The energy conserving oils have additives that increase friction reduction to a point that there is concern with using these oils with a wet clutch. clutch slippages and damage could occur. There are a lot of blends of Mobil 1, and most of them include "SN Resource Conserving" or "SN plus Resource Conserving" I would avoid them. They do make some motorcycle oils that could be a good match.

What I look for is a "high" Sx value (SF, SG, SN, SM, etc) that does not include SJ, SL, or SN with "resource conserving".

As for the overheating. Have you tried a good radiator flush? maybe some slight blockage that could be an issue? Any chance of the hoses upstream of the pump getting soft and restricting some under high flow? Mine typically runs 180 / 190 on the really hot days in SE Texas... and maybe 175 since I moved to KY. I wouldn't expect higher temps in the higher elevations in CO.
