Major Yamaha Recall

That's bad news for those that already have bought them since it will mean downtime, but Yamaha dealers are also forbidden to sell any more of these models until they are fixed so those that are in possession of the dealer or in the dealer network are flagged. Let's hope Yamaha has the appropriate supply of parts otherwise Yamaha's sales numbers will look pretty weak during the big selling season.

This is an April Fools post, correct? I'm struggling to understand how the old and proven R6 motor has anything in common with the new triple.

Just because a design is tried and true doesn't mean the construction can't run into problems. I own a Lexus IS with their 300 hp V6 engine, an engine that has been used extensively by Lexus and Toyota. A few years ago Lexus discovered that some valve springs could have been damaged during assembly. This could cause stresses in the spring and lead to catastrophic engine failure. So Lexus recalled several years of production (138,000 total vehicles) of these engines and the valve springs were replaced. This was an extensive and labor intensive recall requiring several days in the shop, a loaner car for the owner, and sweeteners such as a full tank of gas, a $500 gift card, and a certificate for $1,500 on a new Lexus. All due to a bad batch of springs and incorrect installation. These things happen.
