I just got a call about a hour ago. My Wife just passed her written(computer) test for her motorcycle permit. I don't know if I'am happy or really nervous. She opened with now I can take your bike when ever I like. Time to start hiding the keys.

I wish my wife would, we would get her a FZ6 in a heartbeat.
But she just wants to be a passenger.....but what a passenger...she loves the twisties and speed.

Ahh, the old "first bike" dilemma.

"Now you know, having that kind of horsepower for a beginner is just asking for trouble"...at least that's the line I'd go with!

Translation: Stay the hell off my bike!

I got my girlfriend a 98 Ninja 500 to start on. She got her license and its her first season this year. She is scared shit of my bike so that's never going to happen but I think end of this season I will get her an FZ6. Keep your keys with you man her jumping on your bike is asking to die if she has no experiance.

It is a nervous time Johnny but it's also a time to teach her properly so you no longer need to be nervous. I felt the same about my wife but now she takes off on her own and while I still worry about her, I know she's capable.

What is her inseam? Try and get her a bike she can flat-foot without issues as this is both safer and a confidence builder.

Thats a tough one man, I know my gf wants to start with scooters but I'm not home to show her some decent riding habbits and alittle worried that she will treat it like a car.

Just tell her that in the Motorcycling World, it's bad Karma to even just sit on another person's bike, unless it's as a passenger, and that if she wants to ride she must get hip to all the unspoken rules..............Then hide the keys as a precaution!

P.S. I think the new CBR is Badass!!!! Tell her that I said congrats.

Talking realistically though, I know exactly what you mean. When Richie got his permit I realized that I had been waiting all these years for him to be old enough to ride with but once he had it I was a nervous wreck worrying about him. That was my flip side.

Well it looks like in this part of the country a new Ninja 250 or CBR 250 are out of the question at least locally. The dealer have them on order they are 3 months from delivery and they are already sold.
The last dealer just got in a 09 Ninja 250 with 3000 miles. Looks like its been knocked over on both side. There are some cracks and bent levers but everything looks to be ok otherwise. They are asking 1600.00 as is. They get the keys tomorrow so we shall see how she runs. Considering availability and the used market on these 400.00 in repairs should raise the resale later on to a profit. I will wait till she gets some experience before doing the panel repairs.

Johnny, that sounds like a real good deal to me! Just make sure it runs fine. Take it for a test ride and when you turn the corner and the dealer can't see you ride the piss out of it to see if anything doesn't seem right.

Thanks Eric I looked them over but I think I like the new generation for re sale value a year down the road but we shall se what tomorrow brings. As Norm suggested a test ride is in order. I also have her registered for the MSF training and licensing the first week of August.

Its going to be harder to keep her knowledge of my mods unknown now.

we're still a minority....but our numbers are growing!

Be afraid....be very afraid!

Seriously though Johnny, congrats to your missus. My husband loves it when he asked me what I wanted for my birthday, and I told him I wanted a MIVV Carbon slip On :)

Wife dont want to ride but I went through this with my oldest daughter. Enrolled in the MSF with her, we had a blast riding the little school bikes. She's a competent rider, I still get nervous but thats a dad thing. Have patience Johnny.

Screw resale. Get a ninja 500 for like 1200 bucks, and just get your money back when you sell it. Thats how I am doing it. Got her one for 1300, I will try and sell for 1800 and work down to 13-1400 when I sell it to get her an FZ6 or SV650.

It's going to be fun when you both can go out and rip up the twisties! I love that my girlfriend comes out with me now. It's a lot of fun!
