My gen 1 project

I cleaned and scuffed the whole engine, applied semi gloss engine paint, then black pear vht engine paint. To give it the original metallic like finish. You can't tell where it was faded into the original paint. Worked great. And yes around 1", I'm 5' 9" so doing the r6 mod dropped the rear around an inch. it worked perfectly.

Well after a long talk with the wife, she informed me that I couldn't buy a dual sport for the winter. So I decided to start on an R1 fork swap. Should be a fun winter project.

I didn't like the condition of the first set of forks that I bought. So I found another good deal on a set. All I'm waiting on now is my top yoke to come in from the UK and I'm set

Did you paint it in the Frame? Looks like the Bee was already a black engine to begin with. Mine is Silver, so I fear I would need to remove the entire motor from the frame to do a good job with it....

Yes I did. And yes it was previously black, but it was all faded and chalky. I stripped everything I could off of the frame and engine before I re-painted it.

Serviced the new forked with Race tech springs and new oil. My stock stem is out of my lower triple. Now to figure out what method I want to use to fit it into the r1 lower

Had a local shop knurl the r1 stem to a press fit, and weld a 7mm spacer to the bottom.

After heating the lower and freezing the stem I was able to press it in.

The steering stops have been trimmed, next thing on the list is to install the roll pin for extra security.

I had to cut off a part of the steering lock guide

Made spacers for the ignition. I need to make them a little shorter for the steering lock to work

Update on the R1 front end. I installed the stiffer racetech springs to compensate for the extra weight of the FZ over the R1. At 200lbs with full gear they are a little bit to stiff for me. I think leaving in the stock springs would have worked just fine.

What weight of fork oil are you using? Maybe you just need to go with a lighter weight.

Well close to a year has gone by without a street bike, I spent the summer fixing up my new house and playing on my yz426. But I have gotten the itch again. Just in time for winter. By buddy with his 2012 hasn't rode his much since this trip we took to deals gap in 2015, has only 8k on it. So within the next few months it will be in my Garage. IMG_4485.JPG

I knew I would be back. Just not this soon. But it's a deal to good to pass up since I know the history of the bike and he installed all the parts I told him to install.
