Hi guys.
I have done many oil changes on my beloved FZ1 and I have noticed one seemly weird thing, when changing from cheap Wal Mart 10w/40 to the Mobil One 10w/40 the bike overheats, the fan comes on sooner at the red lights.... what could be the cause? The more expensive Mobil should not make the engine running cooler???
Happy riding to you all, ride fast and rubber down!

95% of oil now days is synthetic. My opinion is they are all good enough for my bikes and cars. Having said that I use Mobil 1. If I had a $30K BMW with huge warranty implications I might use what they suggest.

I’ve used Rotella and Mobil 1 and never detected any difference in engine temp. Just my experience in New England.

Should make no difference whatsoever. Something else is going on.

Shouldn't make a big difference, but if it's not one of the motorcycle oils from Mobil 1, it likely has the SN plus energy conserving or the SN energy conserving spec.. The guys on the FZ1OA used to warn that this specification meant additional friction reducers that could cause the clutch to slip. There are Mobil 1 oils that are made for bikes and don't have these additives.

I would think it is odd that the oil could cause the heating, though.
