R1 Fork Swap or new cartridges in OEM's

Ok so now i have to spend more cash on a R1/R6 M/C. Think i will source some free/cheap spacers from a breakers and spend the cash on a M/C instead, they sell for around £150.00 used.

So far the cost; £300.00 forks £100.00 calipers £35.00 front axle/caliper bolts.

Q's

Can i fit the big bang 09/10/11/12 rotors to my Fz1 front wheel?

Does the radial M/C need to be from a R1/R6 or will any others fit?

Finally, I am replacing the fork oil in the R1 forks, how much oil do i need for each leg and what do i rinse them out with.

Thanks again for your input guys its mucho appreciated :sport12:

Have you completed your swap mate?
I'm about to get my front upgraded (fixed) and going through all the threads trying to put all the info together...

Thanks

Ive done this mod with '08 R1 forks.

'08 R1 Forks £300
'08 R1 spindle £30
6 pot radial brakes (brand new 0 miles!) £150
R1 Radial M/C £80
Spacers instead of 310mm rotors £20

An easy modification, pretty much everything bolts right in.

Do you know if it would work with the 09 R1 forks the same?

Thx

I believe the '09's bolt right in but they don't have full adjustment on each leg, its a similar setup to what your wanting to change. One leg is comp adjustment, the other leg has rebound adjustment.

Ok. In this case it's simply not worth the hassle..

Thanks for the reply mate!

04-05 forks in that case...

Off the top of my head (I could be mistaken..), the 04-05's are 30mm odd shorter than your FZ1 forks, the '08's only about 15mm shorter and work better with the FZ1's geometry.
