Rear axle spacing question

I changed my rear tire and decided to use a caliper to make the difference. I zeroed one side and the other measures out to .54mm. I am finding it difficult to make both sides 0. Will .54mm mess anything up?

So, here's the problem... Nothing back there is really built to the tolerances that you'd be ale to measure like that... About the only place you could measure between for accuracy would be from swingarm pivot to the rear axle...

Easier way

A new tool in the garage makes axle alignment quicker and easier. Bought from KTM Twins ($35). It quickly measures from the center of the swing arm pivot to the center of rear axle, or in my case the marks (notches) on the axle blocks.

Faster and easier.

The tool.

Chain side.

The point sitting in the second notch on the axle block.

Other side, exactly the same.
