Save My Marriage!

Well I have a guy that wants to see it on Friday. I listed it for $7500 and he's interested which is good money for a '06 with about 8000 miles. Still not sure if I'll sell it.

The wife still doesn't know.

I guess I'm one of the few that actually like the Ninja. It's a great looking bike, IMO, and I sat on it a little over a week ago and sitting still, it's really comfortable. That's a good price OTD as well. Will you feel the need to Mod it out?, probably. So what will you wind up accomplishing in the end? That is the question. In the end, it will be up to you. I'll respect your decision either way. Your wife????? That's another story altogether.

Yeah I'll be up shit creek without a paddle if I do this. I've never have left anything along after I bought it. If the guy give me 7500 that a hard amount of cash to turn down.

Talk me out of it

I've ridden Ninja 1000 twice now (2013 model and 2014). In simplest terms, I don't at all see it as an upgrade over FZ1. It's an incredibly similar bike in ergonomics, weight, handling, power.. etc.

Styling is very subjective, so if you love one over the other, that's understandable.

Going to Ninja:
One functional thing to be gained: 3-way adjustable screen
One functional thing to be lost: Center stand.

Besides the flash kit, the rear shock is the most enjoyable(and huge improvement) mod I have ever done. If you don't sell your FZ1(you are getting a great price) do that next you will be amazed. I did like my R1 rear shock but I got a good deal on my ELKA so I went for it. The stock to R1 shock is a far greater improvement then the R1 to Elka. Good luck..your wife will love you no matter what ...

Having upgraded to Ohlins front & rear and having them both professionally tuned to my weight. you will notice the bike hug the road a lot better in turns, if you set it up properly it will also turn in much better as the stock forks sit too high in the trees.

With a decent rear shock you will notice a much smoother ride (less pogo) on your backside.

The next best thing I did was get a PCV and get that professionally dynotuned to you bike and your intake/exhaust mods.

The third best mod I made was switching to Marchesini rims, the lighter wheels means changing direction and acceleration are greatly improved.

All other mods I have made are ergonomics for me (R1 brakes, bars, grips pegs etc).

I love the fact that you can do so much to this bike and make it so much better than stock.

I agree with you on this .. It's a great sitting bike to me - more so than FZ1. It is tempting - but more expensive.

The root of your problem is that you don't have enough bikes. I have so many guns that if my wife asks about a new one I just tell her I've had it for years and she doesn't know the difference. A whole garage full of bikes would be the same! :sport12:

Every mans wet dream!!

On suspension, I don't know much on street bikes but with dirtbikes, it makes worlds of difference and I would assume the same for street. Having a bike tuned and setup for your weight and riding style will make everything much more natural and simple. Instead of working with the bike or fighting it, you both do things in sync and its much more enjoyable.

Well will see, I've had and sold five bikes in less than six years.

I've thought about a shock upgrade but have really had no complaints about the stock suspension. What will I notice?
I had the same thoughts on the rear shock until I tried a better one. The very first ting I noticed rather quickly was the ride quality was greatly improved very smooth. my friends noticed the rest as far as how much faster I got on the twisties being able to hold lines better. I shimed the rear so the turn in got faster also. They were wondering what was going on..lol I ride with a guy with a Z1000 also he was impressed..lol

Well we'll see what happens Friday. If he gives me $7,500 I'll take it because it's more than I got into it. Anytime I can trade somthing off after riding it for the same or more money it's a done deal, We'll see what happens.

$7500 is an excellent price indeed. You'll do well if you can score that for it!

New bikes are always nice, but it's a sideways move. I would go FZ-09 next year or FJR or ZX-14, since I already have an FZ-1.
Next year you might be able to score that same 2013 Ninja for $7k too.

I test drove the FZ-09 before I bought my FZ1 a few weeks ago. My butt hurt after 10 minutes on the 09 which made the decision to go with the FZ1, that and I got the 2013 FZ1 for 7599 brand new

That's surprising. The FZ1 has a pretty bad seat as well and you found it more comfortable than the FZ-09. I would have considered the FZ-09, amazing engine and very light but come on, who makes a new motorcyle these days without offering ABS. It available in Europe but not in the US? I guess Yamaha feels Americans are disposeable.

I do the same thing! I have 28 guns according to the military (they require I register them if their is a chance they will be transported on base. I have a few that will never be on base too.

As far as bikes go I have only gotten rid of one because it was totaled beyond my ability to repair. I have the others, but that is only 3 right now- about to be 4. Can't hide those from the wife in a closet or it would be more.

To the OP:

I considered the Ninja for bike number 4. I checked on insurance and got these numbers: Gen 1 FZ1- $50/year, Gen 2 FZ1- $82/yr, Ninja 1000- $250/year. Considering I cover my bikes full and pay less that $300/yr right now, I don't think almost doubling it makes any sense.

Comfort wise the Ninja was right between the other two. I never got to ride it, so I won't speak to the wind buffeting. The Gen 1 FZ seemed about the same as my Sportster.

Price wise, you already have a bike so why not upgrade it? From my reading your bike is better at some things and worse at others, so it depends on your style. So you would spend money just to get a bike that may not suit your riding as well when a few upgrades will cost less and give you something more customized to you.

You said talk you out of it. Did I do a decent job? I will admit the Ninja is nice, but for my own search the extra money in purchase and insurance isn't going to gain anything for me.
