I was thinking of using Iridium plugs in my FZ1 but I just changed out the plugs in my 2000 mod Ford. 1st time I've done it but it suddenly developed a miss. It was still running great up until the miss started and giving good fuel economy. I worked out the plugs have a minimum of 170000kms and they are normal type.
 
What brand did you put in your ford? Certain brands only like certain plugs. Ford's like factory Motorcraft. GM's like delco. Nothing likes those garbage E3's
 
Well I can tell you first hand that the Iridium plugs will last a long time. My Honda Accord came with them from the factory and when I replaced them at 100k miles they still looked practically new with no noticeable electrode wear. I would imagine even on the FZ1, which revs a lot higher and hence the plugs fire more often, it wouldn't be unreasonable to get at least 30-40k miles out of them.

This is so very true!

I swapped out plugs in my old gm suv and I kept getting a misfire code. Replaced wires and coil packs and still had it. Turns out, I couldn't run fancy spark plugs, had to have basic GM Delco's or it would throw a code. Swapped out plugs back to gm delcos and never had the issue again
 
At the end of the day a spark plug is a pretty basic piece of equipment, it would seem unreasonable that a plug is going to make that much difference in performance in most cases. A fancier plug will probably last longer but performance isn't going to be dramatically improved. Like many things more expensive plugs are a marketing exercise to extract more money from our wallets.

True for the most part, but the Iridium (and platinum before them) came into being mainly so that the auto manufacturers could ensure emission compliance for 100k miles.
