Some oil filters state their bypass pressures with one number while others state bypass pressure with two numbers. Example: Fram XG7317 is listed as 13 psi while Purolator PL14610 is listed as 14-18 psi.
1. Does 14-18 mean the bypass valve opens at 14 psi, or 18 psi, or any pressure in between?
2. Does 14-18 mean the bypass valve begins to open at 14 psi and fully opens at 18 psi?
3. Does the Fram 13 psi mean the valve begins to open at 13 psi or is fully open at 13 psi?
4. Does theFram 13 psi mean the valve is open to it’s mid-point at 13 psi?
When responding please state if it is your “guess” or if you know for sure and can prove it.
