What is it?

Saw this bike on CL in Salinas,CA (only 3K miles away) looks like a nice deal for the miles 13K for $2500.

Anyway, what is the thing on the top of the exhaust? Is it to stop a tail bag from melting?
The only other thing I could think of was a rear facing camera mount for a track day but that would be a lot of vibes and noise.

My guess is that it's a heat shield, either for a side case or passenger foot.
