Since I unfortunately lost the 2009 fz1 I picked up a 2007 fz1 with no miles, I did a lot to the last bike and I intend to do even more to this one although it will look very similar. I thought since I plan on doing all of this quickly I'd start a build thread and post as I go. Im pretty much waiting on parts at this point so I'll work on it as they come in. The first pic is of the old bike, then the next 2 are of the new 07 bone stock

I didn't have time to post these up this morning but this is what I have done so far. Not much yet just what REALLY needed to be done. Got rid of that huge ugly fender and replaced it with a fender eliminator I used on the old bike but cut off the mounts for the turn signals on the fe. Added a plate light that emits blue light (goes great with the color), Installed an integrated tail light from motodynamics, Installed some cheap flush mounted turn signals to replace the huge signals in the front. The integrated tail light is great it strobes 3 times and then stays lit when you hit the brakes and the install was easy thanks to hails thread on installing an integrated tail light

Exhaust!!!

I really went back and forth on what I wanted to do with exhaust and decided on the graves full system and couldn't be happier. I removed the center stand since I never use it and I think it cleans up the look. The install was pretty straight forward except for the O2 sensor. I couldn't connect it to the new system and I don't have a power commander or an O2 sensor eliminator I had no choice but to remove the sensor. I was afraid it would cause an error code or run horrible but so far I haven't had problems. It sounds great plenty loud enough, louder than my old yoshi trc slip on and the performance it gained is incredible. I'm very happy with the look and performance well worth the $$$, next project is cutting the passenger peg where the old exhaust mounted

Still waiting on parts but I got the lower fairing kit a few days ago (that took a lot of searching to find) and now that the frame sliders are in I got the sliders and fairings installed last night. I know its been said before but anyone who wants to add frame sliders and has a lower fairing kit just use sliders made for an 07-08 R1. I used the same sliders I did before even though they didn't hold up very well (I don't think anything would have survived sliding over a storm drain and a curb though). I also removed the reflectors on the forks

Looking GREAT! I really wanted the Graves full but I could not give up my center stand as I use it way more than the side-stand.

RE: flush mounts? What are those that fill the fairing hole so nicely? Putting on the stock signals is a BEAR with the full fairings and it would be nice to have her bike with flushies that we can just unplug and remove with the fairing. :D I never looked for any so I'm being lazy here. ;) Oh, and I need three-wire because the running lights are a NH requirement.

Keep it coming! Loving the look! Do you intend to change out the gold forks for black, maybe R1 forks?

Nice ride!!!

2 questions.
What windshield did you have on the old bike?
I like the CD windshield but am not willing to spend 250 on a dern windshield.
And another for the flushmounts? what brand are those?
I gotta get rid of those ones in the front. Already got the motodynamic light.

Your old bike was sweet looking!

After seeing and hearing Mikes exhaust today, I think I might be in the market for the Graves system. It is super sweet.

Mike thanks for the help with the Hawk today!!!

No problem John that was a fun ride gotta do a longer ride when we have more time, and thanks for the comments everyone, and to answer the questions the signals are cheap speedmetal signals from cycle gear not dot aproved and they dont have 3 wires but you could make any flush mounted signal work as long as it fits through the hole in the lower fairing I think protons have a similar shape so those might work and have three wires, to get them to fit right cut off the foam around the hole for the signal on the inside of the lower fairing kit and tape something like thin plastic to cover the hole from the inside then drill a hole in the plastic just big enough to mount your flush mounts this way you mount your signals to the plastic instead of the upper fairing, I tape some adhesive vinyl that looks like carbon fiber to the side of the plastic that faces out so any area that the signal doesn't fill in still looks good, after the plastic is taped on glue the foam that you cut off to the plastic in the same place it was before and mount your fairings again, and the windscreen on the old bike was just the stock windscreen just cut down and blacked out on the inside, I dont know how well I explained the signals so if it doesn't make sense let me know and Ill pull my fairing and post pictures

Actually that makes sense to me and I appreciate your response. Great looking bike and please keep the photos and updates coming.

There's just something about that GenII Lower that makes the bike perfect. I wished the GenI Lowers were as sweet. Great work Mike! Keep it up.

I totally agree! I keep wanting to get a set, but I've read that it directs even more hot air on your legs. Can anyone confirm this for sure?

Also, I know it's sacrilege, but I've grown very accustomed to my highway pegs. It would be hard for me to give them up, even to put on lowers.

I knew when I got it that I HAD to have fairings I love that look on the fz, I ran fairings on my 09 for a year and my brother ran fairings on his 08 for about 3 years and I just got them on the 07 I dont really notice any redirected hot air, obviously it gets hot when riding through stop and go traffic on really hot days but it did the same thing without the fairings. If it is hotter with the fairings then I barely notice it, I wouldn't worry about it

I really like the fairings on them too, esp. for daily commuting. They help keep a lot of wind/weather off me. As for the heat, I'm not sure as I've not ridden a GenII w/o fairings. Compared to my FZ6 w/o fairings though, The FZ1 is definitely warmer... I do notice I sometimes get hot on the undersides of my legs, behind my knee area. Kinda weird, but it seems like it is actually a little hotter on the left side, opposite side of the exhaust?

Oh yeah, if you're creative, you could make some highway pegs work with fairings... I just throw my legs up over my sliders for a little ways to change positions and pressure points...

I forgot to mention this in my post about the signals, cobalt you said you didnt want to lose your center stand by going with the graves system, from what I understand from the directions you dont need to give up the center stand. It came with a center stand stop bracket so the center stand doesnt retract up far enough to hit the pipe. I removed the center stand before installing the graves system so I cant say first hand how it works but from what it says in the directions you dont need to ditch the center stand
