If no FZ1, what would you buy?

I like it. The red/white scheme looks just like 1983 1100f, which quickly went the way of the
dodo. Even though they were only produced for one year the value of the used 83 version never saw it's values correspond to it’s rarity. Parts were hard to come by as well.

I like the looks of the Honda Hornet SP. Ticks a lot of boxes. Not sure how much I’d like not having a fairing on long rides.
Yeah, I hear you. I'm sure the aftermarket will come up with a solution. I'm a bit mixed; I have no issue with a naked bike as 90% of my riding is city commuting, but on the occasional distance ride it's nice to have a little protection. My blue FZ1 has a very short windscreen but it provides just enough to keep the jetstream off of my body. This is why I'm looking at the Tracer 9... but realistically I'm not buying a new bike for a long time. Every time I'm intersted and think about it, even test riding new bikes, I get back on my FZ1 and ride it home and realize it's perfectly fine.

I ride in New ‘England almost year round and when it gets below 65 having a Gen 1 size fairing with the touring screen is a blessing. Speeds of 70 and above are another reason to enjoy.

That's pretty much where I am. At 65 I'm not getting any younger and the FZ does everything I need it to do.
New would be fun and maybe ABS, but I don't really NEED it.

Have never experienced a bike with ABS.
Traction control, and cruise control would be nice as well.
Me neither on the ABS.

I wouldn't buy a modern bike without cruise control. Don't understand why they don't all have it. The old throttle lock helps some, but it's not cruise control.

After watching the Revzilla Daily Rider review of the Honda CB750 Hornet I'll add that one to my wishlist, although I would have to have more wind protection than it offers stock and more than the accessory windscreen offers.
Plenty of power, handling and comfort for me these days. (Except for the aforementioned lack of wind protection.)

Cruise control is an aftermarket option.:(

Here's my 2024 XSR. Bought it this past June 1st. So far, added the Yamaha fairing, Pyramid tail cowl, M4 pipe, ECU flash, frame sliders, rear stand bungs and Grip Puppies.
The riding position is very close to my FZ1. Loving the cruise control, quick shifter and triple growl. It's a blast to ride!

I agree. If my 06 had had all these latest electronic controls I would have never gotten rid of her. My 22 XSR900 pretty much has it all but the comfort.
I had an 09 Suzuki 1250 Bandit with ABS, that ABS saved me from sliding down a freshly rained on road one day. Nice bike by the way, but to heavy rather my FZ1

I actually went out for a ride to a couple of dealers last weekend ,One in NYC and One In NJ. Looked at a low mileage 2019 FJR then went to another dealer to look at a Suzuki GSXS 1000GT+( What a mouth full) I test rode both as I was thinking about maybe trading up to a newer bike again. The FJR was really nice, but felt heavy and a little clumsy compared to the FZ1.
Suzuki wasn't any better then my FJR. My GEN1 felt like it had more low end then the Suzuki and pulled just as hard. I did like the TFT screen, cruise control and fuel injection, but I left with my bike back home. The sales man was checking out my bike the whole time . Lol

I just can't get excited by most new bikes, I like the retro styling of the Z900R and the new GSX8TT and the Moto Guzzi Cafe racers look great
If I had to replace the FZ, I would get a ZRX1100/1200

Not looking into new-new bikes from the showroom floor (as it wouldn't fit into my budget)

But when I put up the BMW F800st for sale, I was drawn to a Honda VFR1200 or the BMW K1200s/1300S. Both qualify as a Sports Tourer both have 4 cilinders and upwards of 1000cc, and both are fit for "longer riders". In the end the BMW's electronics and sudden death ABS-3 way system in combination with the inline 4 put me off. The Honda was a good alternative to the Fazer but there are SO many DCT (automatics) for sale and not a lot of normal shifting VFR1200's in my country, that with the reviews that it is quite a heavy tourer and more difficult to manouvre at lower speed.

no regrets with the purchase of the FZ1, but that Honda stull looks to be a good bike ;)
