How do you guys feel about this?

So, this video has spurred a lot of debate at my department.

I'd like to hear your guys opinion on it.

Personally, I carry when I ride. Not knowing the WHOLE backstory, I can firmly state that this guy would have went home in a body bag. I would have had my hand on my gun before he even opened his door. You can tell the marked unit behind him is just showing up and not knowing what was going on. His lights are not on and he looks a bit lost.

The guy doesn't identify himself until he's ontop of the bike. You can tell this by watching his mouth.

Without audio, hard to tell. If the guy is an undercover or off-duty cop, he is within his rights. If you'd pulled a gun out, you'd have been in the body bag when the cop behind you plugged you.

If this is just a citizen who called the police and was making a citizen's arrest, then he is just plain crazy. I'd never attempt something like that, carrying or not. If some hooligan chooses to splatter himself, go forth young Darwin Awardee! The herd is thinned by one more idiot!

What state? Any idea?

While I agree that the cop MIGHT have plugged you from behind. But, my Sgt is an Active Shooter Traininer for my department. He was in agreement, the cop that got out of the car was a moron and in every right, could have been a dead man.

The guy has no identifying marks and looks like a disgruntled citizen. He also approached from the front, which is never a good idea. Also, with a marked unit so close on the road, he should have let him take care of it.

This is my opinion.

Also, you see him pass the unmarked car a few moments before he exits the freeway. The car was no where around him when he was pulling the wheelie.

Wouldn't happen here

Unmarked cars still have stealth lighting (blue and red). They always show lights before pulling you over and pull up BEHIND you. They also never pull guns for a traffic stop. If you were to pull a gun on a cop here they would shoot you. Scary situation the way it was handled.

Exactly what I'm saying. Remember guys, I work for a department. I am seeing both sides of this.

If I was guy on the bike, I would have never known that guy was a cop. Just an angry citizen coming out of car and pulling a weapon.

I would have met him with the force that he was escalating to, and I would have won.

I agree with you TimeBombAZ, there is a fine line when you are off duty when pulling your weapon. If this is the officer's unmarked vehicle, he should have made himself known better before he drew his weapons considering he was in plain clothes or civilian clothes. I would not be suprised if he gets a visit from IA over this incident

I wonder if that cop pulls out a gun for every speeder he encounters. I bet not. Speeding is the only thing I saw the motorcycle do. The gun was totally uncalled for. He should have had his badge out too.

I found a link that has some audio.

Saw this the other day on the FZ6 forum. Kept my mouth shut, but that cop was asking for trouble. Should have identified himself straight off the bat.

If some 'tard ,cut me off and then whipped out a gun, and looked angry like that dude, I'd be immediately thinking of how to kill them before I die from some psycho's shooting spree. What if the guy got scared by the gun and tried to ride off.....would he get shot, and would that be OK 'cause he was fleeing from police?

I know these guys are doing a job that can be pretty dangerous, but IMHO he just increased his level of danger and that of the rider. The rider is going to take a second or so to grab a gun if he's got one, so if you identify yourself as you get out of the car grabbing your gun, at least he knows it's not some psycho (well.....) and he shouldn't need to defend himself. If the rider is a threat, the cop's still got the drop on him.

I personally would've disappeared through the traffic as soon as I noticed I was being stalked by some nutter in a car.

no badge, no lights, he really should have let the uniforms take over. maybe a power trip for that guy?

so i just saw it with the audio. he gets out of the car and immediately and aggressively moves up with his pistol drawn and says "get off the motorcycle" thrice, before he says "state police". i think the first thing out of his mouth should have been him identifying himself, but i'm not a cop so i don't really know.

You are right, the marked car should have taken care of this. And yes, the guy in the unmarked car, IF he was a cop should have ID'd himself immediately, not pulled the gun and shouldn't have been in front of the guy.

I did not give it a thought that this car wasn't around the bike when he was stunting, maybe speeding some but not pulling a wheelie. The only thing I can think of is that the call came in, he was on the highway and when the perp passed him, he followed. Both cars seems to converge on the bike at almost the same time. Someone alerted the law about the bike.

Looks like a nutter with a gun.

That is the straightest road ever, but it doesn't look like FL.

Cagers are great in CA, they never get mad, unless you crash in front of them. Pisses them off big time.

That cager must be crazy as the rider was like mellow.

I'v had a cop pull a gun on me before, in Salt Lake City. I was going 70 in a 60, mind you driving in an imaculate Saab late model and wearing Nordstroms finest, still pulled a gun on me. If I'd had time I'd went to the Police station and piched a bit_ _. I now live where cops are rare, and traffic not far behind. But yea......... that guy was a pig. I don't say that lightly, I have three members in the family as Sheriff's and a host of close neighbors who are rightious officers, with level heads. I suppose its where your at, could that have been Detroit?....lol...

I don't think many good officers would pull their weapon in this situation unless there is something we don't know about what was going on. However, being stupid on a bike can have it's drawbacks.

right, GOOD officers hahahaha. i mean like everyone has said, we don't know the whole story, but my initial reaction was definitely unfavorable towards the statey's actions

^^^

Some dudes can't handle police work; stress out over nothing. Any po-po that stresses on zero must do the medical retirement or find other work, as hurting someone for nothing is not worth doing time for.

I was just teasing with Detroit, but honestly.....without sound and all, the whole video was vague enough to be taken a couple ways. As I first watched it, I walked away saying.....whaaaaa aa...?

I look at the way the cop notices the other cops and looks like he trys to hide the gun or make it look like it is still in his holster. Over all i think you should never pull a gun without id. if it were me I would of dropped the clutch and thrown the bike at him. Then told the police he had been threatining me inwitch made me speed.
