I did not put this here but I figure I will. Maybe some people will look, don't hurt to post it. Anyways I am just going to copy and paste my posts from the other forum. Once I get to the "Live" section I will just start updating as I go.

Alright guys, I am going to apologize right now for this post being all over the place. I just got basically a large pile of parts that when put together will build a 93 GSX-R 750. There are quite a few problems, and this is why I am only paying 400 bucks for the entire bike. I will not have pics of any of this for about a week, I am planning on picking the bike up from my friend sometime this week. He started out on this bike, and he decided to take it all apart to mess with the carbs and now it is just sitting in pieces. He bought an 08 Busa, and has not looked at this bike since. I figure if I can make her run, then I can make her look real pretty and bring her back to life and have some fun with it.

The good is it was a running bike and is complete for 400 bucks.

The bad is a list of shit and growing:

- Front right caliper is shot (He has a rebuild kit for it)
- Insane amount of crud on this thing, needs a MONSTER bath
- Tires are smoked (However I change my own and balance as well so that's a non issue)
- Paint is crap, was redone at some point and was done bad. I will have to spray it temporary primer or something.

Now here is my biggest problem. Apparently at some point he wanted to have something done at the dealer for the carbs, and they told him he has "600 carbs on a 750" motor... Now this is where I am very lost. So how can I tell if the carbs are indeed off of a 600, and what can I do about that? He has a brand new jet kit in the bag. Can I just jet them so they flow what the 750's should do stock? Is this impossible and they are the same things?

Anywhere to buy complete fairing kits for these things?

I have already found a service manual online and snagged that up. Just trying to prepare for bringing a poor girl back from the dead. She has been sitting for about 4 years now.

I know this is the FZ1 forum, but I posted this on the Gixxer forums already and I figured there are a lot of knowledgeable people here also so why not?

Any and all help is appreciated!

Thanks,
Geno

I am copying and pasting all this from my thread on the Gixxer forums so I apologize if some of it seems random.

Alright fellas here is the verdict. I picked up the bike today. She is now in her spot in the back yard where I will be tending to her haha. Anyways, all the plastics are in my house and the tank and bike are outside.

There is a good gallon of 3 year old fuel in the tank which I need to empty out and put some fresh gas in there before attempting to fire this bad boy up. The battery is fried, so I have it on a trickle charger and my jump start box is charging as well.

The other caliper is at his friends house along with a rebuild kit and the rest of the random hardware I need to get this thing together. He is going to get that stuff to me by this weekend and then I will go about getting the brakes all setup after I get it running. I am planning on buying all new hardware from the store anyways as its all crap.

The plastics are in amazing condition. I am floored. The paint is actually quite good minus the tank, but I can touch the tank up as a temporary fix until I get around to doing a good job. What is going to need the most attention is the wheels. I am going to try to get them looking good, if they wont clean up properly I will get them powder coated to a color of my choosing when I decide on the paint scheme. Tires are in good shape, rear is actually usable and has no dry rot and good tread with nice rubber feeling. Front kinda feels like shit so I am going to put on the tire I take off my FZ1 when I do her front tire in a week or so. Just for testing anyways, I will put a fresh set of Powers on it if she becomes road worthy. The chain and sprockets are good, and the rear is a Vortex aluminum which is cool looking. Considering I wont be racking up miles on it I will keep that in place until it wears out.

Tomorrow after work I am going to see where I can get as far as starting it. The carbs are all hooked up minus the tank lines and then there are two hoses just hanging out which are called the "Vent Hoses" according to the service manual but do they just stay unhooked like that?

The number you guys were looking for on the side of the carbs is almost non existent. It appears to say 12LC then under it M38 but I really am having a VERY hard time reading it. He said he bought the DynoJet jet kit for "those" carbs.. Who the hell knows at this point. I have a feeling it is not going to run and I am going to be taking this all apart.

As far as hooking up the fuel tank I am having a hard time figuring out which line is the vacuum line to go to the tank? I am guessing the two hoses with the springs on them are just my fuel lines.

Here are some pics of all the other stuff. I have the mirrors and some other crap and the seats sitting here also. I need new seats, these two are trashed. It has a fender eliminator on it already along with flush mount front blinkers. He also gave me a brand new dark smoke Zero Gravity windshield.

Ordered the following orings from OringUsa.com thanks to the thread about the orings for the carbs on the forum. So I wont be worrying about old Orings.

(19103) 3 MM X 1 MM BN70
(19152) 3.5 MM X 1.5 MM BN70
(19156) 5 MM X 1.5 MM BN70
(19161) 7.5 MM X 1.5 MM BN70
(19166) 10 MM X 1.5 MM BN70

I am going to completely disassemble the carbs I have coming and am going to boil them in lemon juice. I picked up a pot big enough to do it and enough lemon juice to fill it. I figure I am going to do this once and do it right.

My buddy gave me the rest of the parts of the bike that were in his room. Couple things that were included was the Dynojet jet kit (for a 90-92 600), a brand new set of EBC front pads, and some misc hardware. Also turns out the white stuff I noticed inside the tank actually is a recoat. He coated the inside of the tank which is why I did not see any rust. I was honestly confused as it looked weird with the old gas sitting on it, but after looking again I am real happy. Totally feel like other than this carb issue that I am getting one of my first scores in the MC world getting this bad boy for 400 bucks.

I am pretty stoked to say the least.

Once this things is running and I drive it around a bit, I will be ordering tires for it. I am going to just put a set of Michelin Pilot Powers on there, and when I do that I am going to get the wheels powder coated white. I think at the same time I will be having all the body panels painted dark blue.

This is the look I am chasing. I don't want to directly copy this bike but I am SO in love with it. Just looks the part for the age, just so awesome!

So here is where I am at. New Canadian 750 carbs will be here Friday. Going to do the lemon juice boil on them bitches and install them Saturday. Hoping for the best.

Ordered the following:
Fairing bolt kit
Knee area plastics (I love them and it does not have them currently)
Airbox cover as the rear of mine is missing and filter
Misc Hardware from PartShark
Rear Pilot Power (Taking the front off my FZ1 and putting a new one on there)
New Mirrors

Yesterday I spent a good 8 hours ripping this thing apart and cleaning everything. I had my girl polish the frame back to a mirror as well as the swing arm. She was able to bring back my pipe as well. I pulled the pipe off and re-sprayed the black section of it as it looked pretty crappy. Now it looks new. Turns out this is an RK chain and is in great condition, both sprockets are also in good condition. Just about everything cleaned up real well except for the wheels. Those are going to be sent out to be powder coated when I have the cash. They are clean but they are pitted to shit and look like ass. Some of the blue is also stained with god only knows what. I also installed the right front caliper that I got in the mail, along with the EBC pads he gave me that were BNIB. I bled the front and rear systems completely and now am using some nice Spectro doT4 synthetic brake fluid. They feel real nice. While I was messing with the rear caliper and whatnot I painted it as it looked like shit. Too bad I cant drive it yet.

Installed the grips I got off eBay, they are actually pretty cool. The reason I went with them is at some point the bike went down on the right and it mangled the end of the clipon. Curled it over and was rubbing against the throttle tube so there was no smoothness about using the gas, it was like constant friction. So these actually have the tube built into them. So I just sawed off about 1/2" of the clip on and slid these on and they are great. Replace the bar ends as well. Kills two birds with one stone and look pretty cool and suprisingly feel great. Those ends are SUPER sharp too.

Battery came in and is on the trickle charger. There are 4 rusty bolts on my gas cap that I replaced after taking that pic, I found them in a random bag of stuff he gave me. Was pretty excited as those looked terrible. I also polished up the top triple tree after I took that pic, I removed all that black shit around the ignition area. I painted the kick stand, front headlight support bracket system, metal gauge surround plate, and the two posts that come up from the triple tree area to support the fairing.

The dude who did my FZ1 seats will be getting the seats as mine are DESTROYED from spray paint. I am going to do that sometime early July. He will be recovering them and doing a small amount of foam modification. They will deff come out nice.

Overall I am beyond excited. Starting to look and feel like a bike now. The filth this poor thing has endured is amazing. I just hope after all the work I am doing that it rides and handles nice.

Just took possession of the following (got to love craigslist):

- 1994 Forks (Blue in color, and good fork seals, plus these have a proper higher spring rating so they aren't so soft and squishy)

- Tokiko 6 Piston Calipers and good pads along with brake lines and Master Cylinder

- Front sprocket cover (Mine is cracked, you can see in the pics there is like a punch out top right corner)

- #1-4 coil pack. My #1 plug wire is kind of shady looking

- Right footpeg as mine is bent

- Another set of front and rear rims. They are the same as mine, the silver on the outside with blue middles. The only difference is these are cleaning up the way they should be. My girl has gotten the silver part looking like a mirror. We will finish doing those Friday.

Basically Friday the carbs come in the mail, I am going to clean them then install them Saturday when I get out of work. While I am doing the carb work she will finish cleaning the wheels.

Assuming I get the thing running, I will drive it around the block a few times to make sure everything is functioning and then I will order a set of tires. I will spoon the new tires onto these nice wheels, swap those on the bike along with the forks and brakes and get it road legal.

After all that I am going to get the body panels painted the same color blue as the wheels are in the centers. I am leaning towards keeping the wheels as is and using that blue for the body panels and where the decals were white in the blue bike pic I posted I will do silver decals. That way the wheels wont be SO difficult to keep clean and I can save on not having to get them powder coated.

I am beyond excited.

Pics will be coming this weekend of more progress. Maybe even a video if it runs!

Edit: And I decided I am just going to order tires now for it. I love Pilot Powers so what I am going to order is a Power for the rear of this one, and I will order a fresh front Power for my FZ1 and use the takeoff from that on the GSX-R front.

So figured I would post an update. My carbs arrived today. They were in fantastic shape, nothing on them was dirty. I mean they were literally spotless, even the pilot jets were clear. So I go to install then after attaching the throttle cables and whatnot and I notice that the boots they attach too are too small.

Now I am sitting here thinking, why would someone go through all the trouble to put carbs for a 600 on a 750, including getting the boots to mount to the intake. Well after looking at the serial numbers, the ****ing engine is a 600.

Needless to say, I just got done boiling the "600" carbs, and am now just waiting on my o-rings kit to come in. The o-rings for the floats were totally shot, so I will put fresh o-rings in there and assemble the carbs with the stock jets and needles. Then we shall see what happens.

I am VERY disappointed as I really don't want a 600 but maybe it will have some pep. Hopefully they come in tomrorow so I can just assemble and pop them into the bike and see what happens. That lemon juice totally STINKS but man everything including the gold on the brackets came off these things. Shit is extremely acidic.

Also got my "other" wheels cleaned. My girl did these, they are amazing. They look brand new. The spots you see on the rear on the bottom are water spots we just finished cleaning them a bit and I sprayed them down and it dripped off the rotor. Anyways, they are fantastic so what I am doing is NOT doing the paint scheme I showed earlier. What a shame though, the tires on these wheels are literally brand new but they are so old they are cracking and lifting up inbetween the tread. They are "Michelin Pilot Radials" I have never even heard of them.

I am going to get paint to match that blue in the center of the wheels, and I am going to get the bike done in that blue. Then where the bike had the white decals I am doing silver. Going to look sick.

I have regressed . . . . 8^p

Papa's Gixxer-600 is looking awesome . . . .
But, me , , , I have regressed again . . . I just picked up a sweet, 2001 Honda HELIX in the very cool, JET black color. It has 4,800 miles on it, a UTOPIA backrest, and while it's no FZ or GSX-R, it is a pretty comfortable ride, even if it is a bit slow . . . . heh,heh

Here are a couple of pics of the ole girl. Now the Black/Burgman has some company there is the shop !!

Going to install the new front forks, wheel, and brakes in it this weekend. New orings come in monday so I can get the carbs back together. Hopefully I can drive it around the block Monday night!

LOL I don't own a video camera other than my phone but I can get a vid of it running if she does fire up.

We shall see.

I will keep the pics and updates coming.

Still broke, and these bikes are why LOL!

Alright here is today's progress.

Got the good condition rear wheel on the bike. Then I swapped in my replacement OEM right rear foot peg as mine was bent. Swapped in a non broken front sprocket guard. Changed out my #1-4 coil as the plug wire on #1 was wrapped in electrical tape due to a break.

Front end swap is complete. Just need to get two bolts for the front fender support and also do the speedo cable wire tie thing at the bottom of the fork. Forgot to do that. Set the forks in there and they are perfect. Used the new MC and 6 piston brake calipers, and bled them out. Nice fresh fluid in there now. Mounted up the front fender. Put the nice front wheel on as well.

Man its such a shame with these tires. they are literally brand new with the little nubbies on them and everything. But they are cracking like an earthquake in-between the tread blocks.

Here are some pics.

Rear wheel swapped. (Broken sprocket guard is still on in this pic)

Tomorrow my new O-rings are coming in. I should (unless something goes wrong) be able to get the carbs back together and then I will get them installed and see what happens. Battery is just sitting on the trickle charger waiting to fire this bitch up! Hopefully she fires up and then I can take it for a blast around the block. IF that does happen, I will get her registered next Monday. Will get the rest of the bike assembled next weekend.

So I put the carbs together today. Used the nice new Orings and set the float heights to 14.5mm as per the book. Used the stock needles and jets and whatnot. Put everything in there, and it fired up.

I took a video which I will upload tomorrow. I can rev it all the way up and the rpm's don't seem to hang at any spot on the way down. I am still going to run seafoam through it when I actually get to drive it.

But when you fix one problem a few more arise. The airbox does not properly fit on the carbs, the boots appear to be too small. Somehow they were attached at one point so I am going to have to finangle a way to do that as the bike ran like total shit when the airbox was not at least close to attached. At one point it fell off the carbs and it started running all screwy.

The headlights do not come on. The fuses are all good, so I am going to check the wiring in more detail later on. All the connections seem to be OK but I will still go over everything and also check the actual sockets with a meter as who knows the freaking bulbs could be dead. Highly unlikely though. Most likely a shoddy ground.

Electric fan does not come on. The Temp gauge does work and I almost got to the red zone so I just shut the bike down. I am going to run wires straight from the battery to the fan to see if it even works, and if so I will most likely just put it on a toggle switch.

So basically I am still a long ways away form being road worthy but once I get this airbox situation all buttoned up and whatnot I am going to at least drive it around the block.

Got luv the old GSXer's. I have 2 86's 1100 and 750. I have a 91 750 Im currently working on.... with the V&H exhaust your running you will need to rejet the carbs. You can run the stock airbox with a stage 1 jet kit.

Craig

I have a dynotune jet kit sitting here that was installed, but I dont know if I am going to mess with that shit honestly. If it runs with the stock jets and the exhaust and does not seem lean then it is staying that way.

I know nothing about carbs, and I don't want to start screwing with jets an whatnot.
