They've saved my feet in a layover and jumped off the cargo ramps of planes almost daily. I figured they where made to protect all those little bones and ankles being as high and support as they are. Just my thoughts and they are way cheaper for me lol.

Your combat boots are duty specific, great for daily duty, but the riding boot will offer more impact resistance, than the basic LPC (Leathered Personnel Carriers). They may work well in a slide across the asphalt, but the smack down the Highside delivers will overwhelm the protection duty boots were designed to deliver. Just the opinion of an old Marine who has worn out more boots than anyone I've ever seen on a flight line. I wear the SMX-5, and even in the snow (Look at my avatar) my feet were comfortable, just don't get to deep in the snow, the vents work well.
