I have spent most of today fitting my new gizmo, a Biketronix gear indicator that I bought from eBay. I had to contact my local Yamaha dealer (Tinklers in Norwich) for advice as to which wire to use for the rev counter 'pulse' to the unit. They told me to connect to the grey crankshaft sensor wire under the fuel tank. I soldered all the joints etc. The unit unfortunately does not sense the engine idling. It senses the wheel turning fine but does not detect engine at idle. Does anyone know of a different wire to connect to to get the rev counter 'pulse' that the unit needs??
:wtf:

I'm not familiar with this unit. I have the GIPro (Type X) and had the same problem with my initial install. When I spliced into the Crankshaft Position Sensor wire harness, I spliced the wrong wire.

After everything was hooked up, I could spin the rear tire and the unit recognized spinning wheel, but when I started the bike, it didn't recognize the RPM's so it wouldn't enter learning mode.

It took me a couple of minutes to figure out and when I switched wires, everything worked perfectly.

So you think I should splice into the blue/black wire, not the grey wire as suggested by my local Yamaha dealer?
Do you remember which wire you used in the end to make it work?

I spliced mine on the other side of the connectors, and I used the solid black wire. I originally spliced the gray wire and then switched to the black wire and it worked. My bike is in the shop and I should have it back tomorrow and I can verify the wire. I'm 99% certain that's how I wired mine.

I got the bike back yesterday afternoon right before I went to work. I will check it this afternoon when I get home.

It took a couple of extra days to get the part in they had to replace.

Here are a couple of pics of the wire connector and the wire I spliced. The directions said to splice the gray wire and in the light I was using, it appeared like the wires were light gray and black. When the unit didn't recognize the rpm's I realized the lighting was probably throwing off my color perception and I switched wires and everything worked fine.

I cannot guarantee this is the same wire you should use because I am using a different gear indicator.
